Departing CH a few days after my permit expires ( non-EU Indian )

hello,
i'm in a real mess right now. well, i am working at davos on a 6 month fellowship that expires on the 31st of august. my work permit (b) is also till that particular date. understanding that i would have to work till 31st, i booked my return flight to my mothership on the 2nd of september presuming there would be a grace period for staying in switzerland to get my stuff sorted ....

now, i was getting a little paranoid with all the rules here so i decided to ask someone and confirm that it is alright. my HR person panicked and asked me to prepone my flight, the gemainde said chill out, i can stay al long as 3 months on the permit as a tourist, the main person at chur said, and i quote ''we dont have any problem with you staying longer sir, but you might''!!!!....

on enquiring with the airport police people, they told me that i need something called an 'ausreisemeldekarte'... a deportation / leaving card.... what should i do?
can anyone help this poor soul?

thanks in advance!

Just for future reference, but it you use a meaningful subject it might help you get help?

I'm not entirely sure why helping you is for Christ's sake.

What passport do you hold? You don't need to apply for a tourist visa if you are allowed to stay in Switzerland for three months as a tourist (e.g. US and Canada, plus many others I'm sure).

On a serious note, have you talked to your commune, ie. local authorities where you live, they should inform you how to proceed.

So go to the Gemeinde where you are registered and ask for a letter or the 'ausreisemeldekarte' approving your stay of 2 extra days.

It really isn't a problem, they are searching for thousands of illegals that have gone underground, but they do know where you are!

Re: please help me for crissake!!!!

let me post a copy of the mail i received to make things clear... or otherwise... this is on of the most self-contradicting letters i have ever received!!!

Sehr geehrter Herr George

It's not a "self-contradicting" letter. It's a very bad translation.

If I am not mistaken, it says the planned departure on 2nd September is ok, and later departure may lead to problems.

Just take the printout of this E-Mail with you when you leave. It states they see no problem with you leaving on 2nd September.

When you book your ticket, take care to exit the Schengen zone through a Swiss airport.

If you fly out via, say Frankfurt, the German emigration check will simply treat you as having overstayed.

Re: Departing CH a few days after my permit expires ( non-EU Indian )

If you have proof of your legal and legitimate stay in the country for the entire duration, I highly doubt that you'll encounter any problems for staying 3 days longer. Bring whatever you can with you, email included, just to be certain though. But how can anyone blame you for needing time to leave with a clean slate and/or choose a more affordable flight itinerary?

Personally, I wouldn't stress about it too much. And remember, when you get to customs, a little smile can go a long way

Good luck!

Re: Departing CH a few days after my permit expires ( non-EU Indian )

Man,

Get an "ausreisekarte" or departure card from your gemeinde. Once you give back your permit for deregistration, the gemeinde will issue you this departure card with a validity till 2nd Sept if you could show them your ticket as well (ofcourse you might have to pay them a fee).
It is not at all a problem. I would do so rather than getting trouble at the airport because of invalid permit.

Best wishes

I think you still have to leave CH and come back, even if you dont need a tourist visa. You cant stay on in CH.
