Fresh off the boat from US- Next Steps for work permit?

Hello,

My wife and I just arrived from California two days ago. We are renting an apartment in St-Prex, VD. We got our D visa approved and "stamped" in our passports in the US. The application approval took about about 2 months and went very smoothly after we find the right adviser.

But now, we are a bit confused about the next steps. The lady who helped us with the visa application, a few weeks ago told us that after we arrive, we will have to go to the local authorities and the biometric center to register. But she was not very specific and now she is on vacation.

I am wondering what does the "local authorities" mean. Is this the city hall in St-Prex?

Can someone please help with the next steps?

thanks for the help in advance!

You have to register for a recidency permit at your local city hall.

You will need your passport, and if you were transfer here by a company a copy of your contract.

Enjoy Switzerland!

It is the city hall, more spcifically the "controle des habitants", and you have 8 days from the date you arrive. The biometric scans will be done at the Cantonal migration office.

First of all, welcome to Switzerland!

If you are an international transferee, your employer shoul take are of all permit and migration office issues.

If not, contact/visit the office of the communal administration on how to proceed.

Best of luck! Switzerland is not an easy country for Americans to live these days given IRS extorting dollars and information from US expats abroad and many Swiss Banks flat out denying basic banking services to Americans due to FATCA.

Re: Fresh off the boat from US- Next Steps for work permit?

Thanks for the help.

I was transferred to CH by my employer, and they paid for a consultant to help with the visa until now. The company I work for is small and we don't have anyone internally who could help, so I have to figure things out on my own and with the help of the forum.

thanks!
