Family Regroupment B permit - job offer-renewal?

Hello all,

My husband is a graduate student in Lausanne in a one year program through the EPFL, he is on a student visa, permit B. I have a B permit as well, family regroupment, 'avec activite.'

I am a teacher and was offered and consequently accepted a teaching position. However, being that I am here on a family regroupment visa, my permit is dependent on my husband's (correct?). He is still studying and is looking for work, however has no firm offers yet and therefore no guarantee of an extension beyond his graduation in December.

Does anyone know if there is a process I can do to renew MY visa, permit B, to continue working at the school after December and then consequently my husband would also be able to renew his (and perhaps more easily facilitate his job search)? Or is that impossible for me being that I am originally here due to my husband? I wondered if being that I already have a B permit, I would be able to bypass the concerns on quotas for non EU workers.

The school has said it is easiest for my husband to receive an extension first and then apply for mine, but I fear he will be denied and then we will both be stuck, sitting by and hoping doesn't seem the best to me. Would love any advice on if a renewal for me is possible or not.

Thanks so much,

play as if you are going to stay, intergrate, work hard pay everything thats due abide by the rules..... apply for your B permit when its due and show them how you have intergrated
Each application is unique and if yours is accepted because you have a steady income and shown your Kanton you do what they want .....

Re: Family Regroupment B permit - job offer-renewal?

A case I saw (my friend, non-EU):

A couple both had job at the beginning;
The wife was laid off then became dependent B;
After two years found a job again;
After 1.5 years, the man lost his job;
ALMOST AT THE SAME TIME, the wife asked her HR to apply for an independent B, and, got.
the man got dependent B.

So it seems possible in your case, just ask your HR.

Good luck

Re: Family Regroupment B permit - job offer-renewal?

Thanks for the advice. So it sounds as though there is hope!

Is it likely that I could get denied? Does this fall into the quota category that each canton has for hiring foreigners...or since I already have a B, is it just a renewal?

If your firm has higher impact to Swiss society, it is much easier.
My understanding is that it is NOT a renewal process, rather, your HR needs to apply for independent work permit B for you.
