Work permit (working place different from place of residence)

Hi guys,

I am a non-EU citizen and have lived in Zurich for 2 years already. I recently started working in Basel and I need to get a work permit. I will continue living in Zurich and travel every day to Basel so I was wondering where I need to apply for the work permit: in Basel or in Zurich?

Cheers
Irena

Sorry not to answer your question, but shouldn't you have a work permit before you begin work?

Re: Work permit (working place different from place of residence)

I would quickly check where you are allowed to live. As far as I know non-EU B permits are tied to place of work and that used to mean you had to live in the same canton as your place of work. So you may not be allowed to work in Basel while continuing to live in Zurich. In which case you need to look for another job in Zurich canton or another place to live in Basel town canton.

Also non-EU permits are subject to quota limitations so you might not be granted one. Do sort this out quickly.
