Registration of residence

Hi, I'm moving to Zurich next week to join my partner. We are both on EU passports and looking for employed work.

I understand that you must register within 8 days of arrival. (or is it 14 days?) My partner arrived on the 1st of this month and has not yet done this. (now the 9th). I'm beginning to worry!

We have a sub-let until the end of this month at one address, and then will be moving into another sublet in Zurich after that, possibly in another district. If you register and then move shortly after do you need to re-register or can you just amend your address. Do you need to pay each time you change your address?

Finally is this where we should register?
Migrationsamt des Kantons Zürich
At: Berninastrasse 45, 8090 Zürich

I hope i'm posting in the right area!

You register in the villiage your living, & will have to pay for every change of address. you could have just asked this in your permit thread.....

Re: Registration of residence

Thank you for your reply - I thought I was going off topic and needed to make a new thread!

What are the risks of not registering with the town hall within the 8 day period? I need to convey the seriousness of this to my partner..

Re: Registration of residence

I would try registering in the area where you will be living as of next month. Usually, they are quite nice about doing this, but you'll have to ask. If we are talking about the city of Zurich, which I think you are, then you need to register with the Kreisbüro of the district. Check here which one would be responsible for your second sub-let and give them a call.

In terms of registering on time, they won't chop your head off if you are a few days past the deadline, but I wouldn't wait too much longer either. Also, make sure you have all your documents along. If you are an EU/EFTA-citizen, registration is completed at the Kreisbüro. If you come from any other country, they will make an appointment for you at the Migrationsamt and you will need to go there as well.
