With B-per. can we live in different appartments?

Dear EF !
Considering only legal aspect..
My wife want to live separately, rent new apartment only for herself.
Under B-permit, non-EU, can we(especially me -)) ) live on different addresses within kanton ZH?
She has main permit, my is dependent

I'm not sure, but I remember something I saw before that in this case you will have to ask for permission, and it can be allowed only "for good reason"...

I hate to ask, but why separate apartments? Are you having marital problems? If you're on a dependent permit, then it would be up to the authorities to decide if it's okay I would think because they'll be expecting you both to be in the same place.

From the experience from one case I know, he was told no and had to be here for 5 years until he could live seperately.

Re: With B-per. can we live in different appartments?

From what I was told before my divorce was if I hadn't had a child here, I would have to leave. So if no children you might lose the dependant part of her B. Do you have a job here or can you get one to stay here and get a B. If not you might want to be prepared to move home. Doubt if they let you live in seperate appartments as a dependant. Who will pay for the one you stay in and how can you support yourself? If you have a job can they get you a B if you ask.

Re: With B-per. can we live in different appartments?

My wife and I officially lived in separate apartments for two years (until we moved to Ticino), though physically we were normally at mine during the week and hers on weekends (I lived outside ZH and she near the ETH).

But this was for logistical reasons, as neither apartment was large enough for two, we each were paying just over CHF 200, and finding a larger one in a suitable location was a problem.

However, she was Swiss, and I had an independent B, so no problems regarding my permit.

Tom
