Wochenaufenthalter [weekly resident] & permit

I m wondering, CAN i work in Zurich without the confirmation from kreisburo about Wochenaufenthalter. M'y primate address is in geneva, but m'y permit is in process if renewing now, so Zurich as second address dsnt give me the confirmation about Wochenaufenthalter till m'y permit B renewed. As m'y employer in Zurich asks me This confirmation, but i hard to get It for à short Time. So i would like to Know, CAN i start à work contact in Zurich where is m'y secondary addess but without Wochenaufenthalter confirmation?

sorry, would you mind restating that in English? I have no idea what you are going on about. I have never heard of a Wochenaufenthalter?

Re: Wochenaufenthalter&permit

I heard It for the first Time too. It means some résident certificate, but only for secondary address: living here for work during the work days and return to primary address for week-ends etc

You can get a Wochenaufenthalter (weekly residency) permit if you can prove / make plausible that you go back to Geneva every weekend e.g for personal reasons. You have to register at the Kreis and provide a confirmation from Geneva. They might grant you this permit for a year or so and then review your situation. They are very strict with this kind of permit as this set up would give you tax benefits since u can deducts part of your rent from your income. You will still pay taxes in Geneva so ZH is very much interested to keep it temporary...

Re: Wochenaufenthalter&permit

Tax in Geneva is higher... But I have to keep my appartment in Geneva.
The problem is Zurich Kereis4 ask my valide permit B before give me this one year Wochenaufenthalter. I even showed them the attestation of renewing permit from Geneva.

Re: Wochenaufenthalter&permit

What does your HR department say?

I am not familiar with the exact rules, but if you are a "quota" permit B holder ie from non-EU there may be a problem doing wochenaufenthalt (travaille hebdomadaire).

Otherwise I just suspect you have register at the Personenmeldeamt. They may ask a few questions (for example if you are single and have no family in Geneva it might not be so easy).

Thanks! Learn something new everyday - I thought that might be what it meant but I had never heard of this before. I guess another unique situation in Switzerland where your permit can be canton dependent...

Well Switzerland is a "benign police state"... they like to know where you are, and especially where you pay tax.

You pay tax in the Canton where the "centre of your private life is" typically where you live, and which may not be the same as where you work. However if you are beyond normal commuting distance and claiming to live in a [lower] tax canton its not unreasonable for the Canton where the employment is located to be able to assess whether or not you fulfil the criteria. In reality the permit is not much more than a tax ruling on where you will pay taxes.

Re: Wochenaufenthalter&permit

They ve accepted my registration but need to validate it by permit B from Geneve
HR said nothing yet, just ask me to get the confirmation.
So I am wondering whether it is a necessary document to valid my contract

Re: Wochenaufenthalter&permit

Move your mail address to Zurich, your taxes will be way lower, or just claim to daily commute & claim 404chf a day .Thats 97k of deductions a year

Re: Wochenaufenthalter&permit

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody knew whether someone with an 'L' permit can qualify as an "wochenaufenthalter" (which allows you to pay taxes to where you have a residence, rather than where you work.) I currently live in Graubunden and will soon be moving to Berne. Though I will live there during the week, I will be back in Graubunden (where i have a residence) on the weekends.

I'd be grateful for any input/ informations.

Thanks!
