Re: crazy language requirement for C permit

In Canton Zürich, I think it is B1 - A2 certificate minimum though ( usually the B1 can be attained by work history etc. )

Could you please give more highlight on what you mean by B1 can be attained by work history ? do you mean brining a paper from the work place ?

Another question, I understand that the certificate they need is the test that official European one that costs around 280 CHF, not a certificate of passing the course, right ?

Thanks in advance for the time and effort answering my questions.

I just applied for the C permit and I sent proof of German level up to B2 and I got a reply saying that only certificates based on the European Language portfolio is accepted and the need it at least a B1.

I asked my German school and they said the only school in Zurich providing it is ECAP. It doesn't make sense that this requirement is so strict.

Has anyone had to prove language skill, how did you do it?
I took the Goethe test in Zurich, passed the A2 and that was enough for mine in Zurich city last summer. Maybe the rules have changed already?

So just to confirm... before I can get my C-permit next year I have to have a German qualification behind me of at least B1 or greater? Can I theoretically just go and directly do a B1 exam without having to do a course? I thought the upgrade to C was automatic, didn't realise it had language requirements too... I thought that was just the passport!
I got my C-permit (originally from UK, now living in ZH) in September this year, no language test needed although the person at the Gemeindehaus said it could help when I applied. In the end they didn't ask for any certificate and nothing was mentioned in the paperwork.

When I was there I spoke in my (grammatically incoherent) German which may have helped although it may just have amused her to be referred to in some non existent case.

The people I dealt with all seemed very keen to help. Smile sweetly and act like a good citizen.

Re: crazy language requirement for C permit

Well as of this morning our family of 5 are fully paid up members of Saurons' hoards!
For the rather chunky sum of CHF 301 (?? not divisible by 5...?) I was able this morning to collect our C-permits so my days of German cramming were not in vain.
Actually feel quite a sense of achievement to have jumped thru all the hoops and secured them.
Immediate response from the office was "well now you are officially responsible you have to pay your taxes on demand not PAYE"! Now THAT I wasn't expecting... but apparently no more quellensteuer for me. I'm not sure I'm THAT responsible....

Cheers
Rick

Re: crazy language requirement for C permit

Anyone have some recent experience with the C permit language requirements in Zurich? I just applied and got told my language school certificate for B1 was not sufficient. I have to provide a certificate from TELC, Goethe, ÖSD or TestDaf in 30 days.

Any tips on how to get these quickly? I think my German is fine for A2 so I should be okay for an exam, but just a quick search seemed to imply I have to wait until the exams are offered (a couple of months time) and cost CHF 300+!

It is clearly stated that the test needs to be done by one of those institutions. Try if you can do the test somewhere in Germany or Austria?

You could go to Konstanz for a TELC exam. The earliest B1 appointment they have now is on July 14. It also only costs 110 EUR.

Thanks so much for that info! I will look into it. Didn't think about going to Germany.
