Work Permits

I have heard rumour that you need a job permit to even apply for work in Switzerland, is this true?
Thanks

Not true, you need a permit to be allowed to live and work in Switzerland.

You can apply for anything in theory.

Re: Work Permits

Perhaps someone meant it isn't worth applying if you don't already have a work permit.

Generally not a big topic for a 15 year old like yourself or?! Forum is already full of "too lazy to search" questions, and its not the first time in your 12 posts it has been suggested you do a search first. When to boot they are purely academic queries people are going to get irritated. Just saying.

Re: Work Permits

Actually, i dont know how much you know about swiss education but you are expected to get a part time job when you are 15 in switzerland. And I just wasn't sure if non swiss people need a permit.

Your question was then way too vague. Want a precise answer as a precise question. Sorry if this sounds impatient towards you, but this isn't really a children's forum.

It's news to me about children having to get jobs, certainly no one queuing up to help with the garden or whatever around here, but if you say so, or do you mean as an apprentice?

Since about 20% of your classmates are statistically likely to be non Swiss too, shouldn't be too hard to get an answer.

However, my guess is you are a dependent child, so it will depend on your parents (do kids still have those?) permit status or if they are EU on non-EU. What do your parents think?

Re: Work Permits

I appreciate what you are saying but I just happen to be in an all swiss class and my parents were wondering too. And in answer to the jobs, yes some do get apprenticeships, about 2/3 go on to higher education and apply for part time jobs and others apply from full time entry level jobs at the age of 15.

Re: Work Permits

I'm assuming you have a permit to live here right? Which sort of permit is it?
Your best bet is to go to the commune and tell them you are looking for an apprenticeship and need to know what you have to do. I find the commune people are normally friendly and helpful. At least they have been whenever I've needed to talk to them.
