I am on a B Work Permit. I have be reading all of the forum so far. My question is this. Since my wife's permit is tied to her company, can she change companies at any time and how does she get a new permit at that time? As her spouse, my is tied to her company as well. Are we really tied to them? Or it a formality? Its time to renew, it appears we go to the local canton offices to do that.

If you're non-EU, or from Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Slovakia, Slovenia, the Czech Republic or Hungary, then it is probably tied to your job and any new employer would have to show that there is no Swiss or EU person who could do that job and they would also have to willing to go to the time and expense of applying for a new permit for you. There are strict quotas for non-EU citizens to work/live in Switzerland.
