work ended-B permit valid-can I stay?

Hi all,
I tried to read through the existing posts here to see if I get the answer to my question, but I couldn't, so I ask it here..

I'm finishing my PhD (which counts as work) soon but my B permit is still valid till August...now can I stay in switzerland until my permit is valid without having a job, or do I need to inform them that I have no job anymore and might have to leave?

I would be happy if someone who has had the same experience can help..
Best,
Saba

some B permits are linked to education and will have a notice to this effect. i know someone that had to leave within 5 days of finishing his phd.

Permit B allows you basically to stay in the country for 5 years and you are free to look for and change job(i don't know if any limitations for students apply). The only problem would you encounter, if at the moment of permit expiration you don't have a job. Then there is a risk, they wo't extend it.

Ask at your Gemeinde for confirmation. Especially student B-permit is a bit special..

I don't think this is true for everyone. Non EU B permits are renewed every year...at least all the non EU people that I know.

You could talk to your advisor about postponing your public defense within the allowed time limit after passing the exam.

This could allow you to stay immatriculated as a student even though your contract may have ended.
