Moving & setting up own business

Myself and a friend are looking into setting up our own sports massage/sports rehab business in one of the alpine ski resorts - and therefore also moving in order to do this/run the business.

It's only in the very early stages of research but does anyone have any advice o the easiest way that this could be done? Any problems we should be looking out for?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What nationalities are you? Check that your qualifications are acceptable here in Switzerland. Check the threads here for business start-ups. There's a cost involved, but I can't remember exact figures. Plus there are various taxes of course; check the Federal site www.ch.ch for more info.

Language is another subject to be considered. Are you aiming to cater only for English speakers or are you prepared to have a go at French, Italian or German?
Have you found out how great the demand is and what is already on offer? There are loads of English speakers on holiday in the ski resorts but I'm not sure how many of those injured will be able to stick around for rehab whether they live abroad (that's Britain by the way) or here.

Re: Moving & setting up own business

Are you specifically looking at setting up in Switzerland, or just somewhere in the alps? I have a feeling that it will be easier to live and set up a business on the French side of the border, than in Switzerland - and easier to have qualifications recognised on the EU side of the border.

Re: Moving & setting up own business

We're both UK based - England & NI.

Have been told that our qualifications and insurance via our governing body would cover us if we are still UK based but don't see how setting up as UK based would work or if that would even be possible.

With regards to language, English is obviously our first language but I would be more than happy - infact quite excited about mastering a 2nd - probably French.

I think Switzerland would be preferable but would definately consider other countries - early stages of planning so open to all suggestions at the moment.

Having done some research there is a definate demand for this service - also offering theraputic treatments. Currently looking into where this is already available/to what extent current companies are established within resorts. Demand also seems to come from those on season there rather than just holiday goers.

But what citizenship do you have? That is what is important for permit issues.

You are right, it's not possible. If you are no long living and working in the UK then you are no longer UK based.

Good luck!

Re: Moving & setting up own business

We're both British nationals.

Thought that would be the case.

Thanks
