Need Help on Family Reunification - spouse joining from Pakistan

hi all, i have a question here,

i am from Pakistan, working in geneva, i got my 3 months Visa D in 5 weeks and got B permit after arrival in no time. Now the sad bit, i am married and my wife was completing her education in Pakistan in Mar'12 i submitted documents for her visa in geneva, a month later i got to know that she has to apply from Pakistan, so i picked up the phone and tried to book an appointment which was end Jun'12 since they were busy. Anyways everything went smooth, all docs were accepted as i had done my home work. but it took them uptil end Nov'12 to complete the verfication that is sending a lawyer to my hometwon verfiying all docs, talking to witnesses of our wedding etc. but by end nov it was done. Now they had to send docs to switzerland. it took upto mid Jan'13 for them to send the docs via a diplomatic mail expected to reach in Geneva by Feb 1st week. What i understand is a letter of authorization from swiss which will be shown to swiss embassy in pakistan to pick the visa D. Does anyone know how long will it take after the verfied docs have been received in Geneva?

Dear,
AoA.

I'm really sorry that you had to go through this ordeal, and I'm worried for myself as I'm planning to get married in April. I'm from Lahore, currently working in Zurich.

Can you please guide me on how to complete the process and save time wherever possible? I'll be immensely grateful to you.

Regards,
Adnan

I don't think it takes too long once all the paperwork has been approved. Should only be a couple of weeks before she hears that she can come and get her visa stamped.

What problem do you have Adnan? You're here so it shouldn't be too difficult. I think the main thing is having to get copies of the various documents your gemeinde/canton need. They can tell you what documents they need to have.

Re: Need Help on Family Reunification - spouse joining from Pakistan

In principle, the process is supposed to take 2-4 months, but unfortunately, as I have come to know after discussing with some fellow Pakistanis in Switzerland, it may take quite long, even a year. Here at the Canton Migrationsamt, they don't require a big bunch of documents; but they do ask to get a couple of documents verified/processed by the Swiss Embassy in Islamabad. The problems start from there. To process just these two documents, they ask for at least 10 more documents, and then they pass them to a law-firm. This firm then sends a lawyer on an 'investigative' mission to verify those documents from the respective departments (like Marriage office, birth registration office, etc.). The more the bureacratic steps, the more the delays.

They'll be making sure that it isn't going to be a sham marriage which is why they check things out so thoroughly. Be patient, they will get there in the end.

Hope you get good news soon.
