DON´T WORRY! Holidays are coming to an end only now and probably only by now they are back in "full force"!

Re: Facilitated naturalization interview

Hi everyone,

I wanted to update you on our status. For a little background, our situation was a little unusual, as my mother (whose mother is Swiss) and my sister and I applied for naturalization at the same time. We applied in July 2015.

I was asked to sign a letter June 6 2017 stating that I had not broken any laws since I applied, and I have heard nothing else since.

My mother was asked to sign the same letter, plus another letter stating that her and my father were still married (signed by both of them) on September 13 2017.

My sister has not heard at all and has not been asked to sign any letters yet.

I'm curious about three things:

1. The fact that I wasn't asked to sign a letter stating that my husband and I are still married.

2. The fact that I haven't heard anything since signing the letter regarding the law over three months ago.

3. The fact that my sister hasn't heard anything at all.

Any thoughts about possibilities would be welcome!

Re: Facilitated naturalization interview - Good News!

Hello everyone!

I have wonderful news. I received an email today from the embassy letting me know that I am officially a Swiss citizen!

I'm so happy, excited, and grateful.

All in all, the process took 27 months, which was a long wait, but so worth it!

Thank you for all your help and encouragement throughout this journey.

I would be happy at any time to answer questions about the process for anyone that needs it.

Congratulations to you too!!!

I guess this points to there having been a bit of a backlog in the process, and they probably unclogged the pipeline.

Cheers! I am happy if I was in any way of assistance to any of you.

I sort of feel the same! What's the next step for you? I have to register at the Embassy and apply for the passport and ID card.

I know that is tongue-in-cheek, but you guys ARE Swiss citizens the moment Bern made that decision. Whether you get you id / passport or not, it doesn't make any difference...

Of course, it is *awesome* to get that passport in your hands...

Cheers!

I think I just have to wait for my heimatort to enter my details into the "system" and then I will be able to order my passport.... hopefully it won't take too long.

According to the letter, I have been Swiss since the 5th of September, but it took them 15 days to let me know ... I guess it just won't feel real until I have the "physical proof"

Mine went something like that too. My Heimatort had to send stuff to the village where I live, and they then gave me the forms to take for the passport appointment (along with a bill for doing me the favor). I was told to set the appointment such that I'd allow 2-3 weeks for the paperwork to make its way around and be ready.

The passport arrived pretty quickly after the appointment - less than a week, IIRC.

Congrats to you both! I am still waiting for my decision letter. It has been almost 1 year since interview and 18 months since I applied. Signed 2 forms this June. Since then my heimat Kanton also asked me for Betreibungsauzung. I guess my application is taking the long route

Thanks! I signed my form on June 6 and only just got my confirmation. Hoping you'll get yours soon too. Best of luck.

I was quite nervous before my appointment to get the passport. I had this feeling like there would be one final surprise German test or knowledge quiz, after all the police did get me out of bed early one morning last year for my interview.

What happened though was the super friendly guy behind the counter heard my English accent near the beginning and pretty much insisted we speak in English

Anyway, congrats Island Monkey and SwissRoots
