Travelling to Paris without child Passport / Permit card

Dear All,

I am from India and holding B permit in Swiss. I am planning to travel from Geneva to Paris during easter holiday. I applied passport (first time) for my new born baby (3 months old). I just his Birth certificate and he DO NOT have his Permit card or Passport.

Q1) As I understood, travelling by train needs to cross EU Immigration and they will ask for Passport and Permit card. Do they allow my son without Passport or Permit?
Q2) I believe there is no Immigration / border check when you travel by car - Correct?

Thanks..!

You may get checked, may be not. It's random, or profiled.

It is actually less chance of being checked on a train.

As to your situation, I would be very careful if your baby does not have the docs yet in traveling across borders.

Don't you also need a visa to travel in France (as an Indian citizen)?

You may get checked by either method. Or you may not...Personally we have yet to be checked on Swiss plates, but we haven't been traveling in France - just Germany or Austria

Not if you have a residence permit in Switzerland

The main crossing into France from Geneva (Bardonnex) is pretty well manned and they can be rather 'keen'.
There are un-manned crossings, but is it really worth risking travelling with a baby that doesn't have the necessary papers?

The weather and traffic over the weekend is going to be dreadful too.

Re: Travelling to Paris without child Passport / Permit card

Hi,

I am into similar situation. In my case I am planning to go to Paris, but my Baby's Schengen , visa has ended on 28th April. Dependent L card is under process and I am waiting for the same to arrive.

I had actually booked tickets to Paris for 9th May travel before hand assuming L card would come on time as many of my others friends were travelling on the same date.

My take my baby & wife without L card to Paris. They have the passport but visa has ended.

Thanks !

What kind of tickets did you book? If you booked airline tickets, I would reconsider traveling without the permits. The airlines will ask for documentation to see if you and your family members are authorized to enter each country. If you don't have the right paperwork, they may not let you board the plane. That could be a huge hassle and potential waste of money.

I would suggest No. Don't do that.
Unless you get permit how come someone b sure that they might get it. What if your baby and wife doesn't get permit (chances are there) ??

Else go to immigration office in your canton and get travel document for you and your baby. It's safe and easy.

Thanks
Amit

To Q2: I definitely would not travel without clarifying whether the child needs a a passport or can travel under your passport, just in case you get stopped.
