Travel restrictions for C permit holders?

I am an EU citizen (German) and am hoping to be offered a C permit in two years. I am considering a job change that would require I be outside of Switzerland for months at a time.

Are there restrictions on my current B permit or on my future (fingers crossed!) C permit that, for example, I be a certain number of days per year in Switzerland?

I would still be employed by a Swiss company and would be paying taxes here.

Thanks!

Re: Travel restrictions for C permit holders?

I don't think so as you are still employed by your Swiss company here. So long as you keep your Swiss address as your permanent residence there shouldn't be any problems so I believe.

I think you have to make sure you are in CH at least 6 months every year. In practice it's very unlikely anyone will check the days you are in out of the country though.

Check out the stuff mentioned in this post though. There might be limits somewhere in the official terms.

Edited.
Sorry, smagnum pi types faster than I do. Looking up the specific links is never a bad idea.

Good link Longbyt. Unfortunately, jrspet's link only gets you to the ch.ch's page on moving house now that they're revamped the site and made it crap. I have to use the search function to find anything there now.

Being sent abroad by a Swiss employer is one of the very few reasons that a C permit can be retained with an absence up to 4 years. It won't work with a B.

Not your fault Longbyt, it's ch.ch who's changed everything around. Jrspet's info is still there, just the link he provided is now wrong.

I would still be employed by a Swiss company and would be paying taxes here.
OH has done this several times over the years. He is paid in Switzerland out of the Swiss office, simply temporarily assigned to another location.

As far as the Gemeinde/cantons are concerned, it seems to be that the key points are where you pay taxes, and where the 'center of your life' is.

Because we own a home here while OH's accomodation abroad is arranged through his company, because OH continues to pay his health insurance here, and because the family remains here while he is abroad with him visiting as many weekends as possible, there is no question that his 'center of life' remains here.

But in any case that he is paying taxes here pretty much trumps all else. SZ seems to be happy as long as one continues to contribute to the cantonal coffers.

No need to freeze the permit, it remains active because he is still living here. due to the 'center of one's life' thing.

Now - the country in which you are working might have other ideas. For instance, while OH was 'commuting' between CH and NYC he ended up paying NYC state taxes even though considered not permanently resident (as well as US federal tax, but that's a given as we are US citizens) and he had to be quite careful as to how many days he spent in London, as the UK starts to claim tax after a fairly low number of days spent in country.

But as long as you remain on the Swiss payroll and pay Swiss taxes, you should be OK. If in doubt, you might have the HR folks speak to your Gemeinde.
