My next B permit is opened? What does it mean?

Hi, everyone

First, I am a non-EU, work in a swiss bank, first took 2 years L, then pasted 2 years on B. 1 month ago I submitted the extension formula for the B renewal.

Today the company forwarded me the confirmation from AWA Zürich, particularly stating that:

Die bisherige Befristung wird aufgehoben. (The present limitation will be removed?)

Can anyone tell me, what does it mean?

If it means that I can change the company then it's almost useless, since I have changed company several months ago without any problem (of course the new company have sent the formula and contract to Migrationsamt and AWA as well).

My HR told me that I could have a more-than-1-yr B permit? Personaly I don't think the kind HR knows the details abt non-EU policies, hehe.

Hope somebody could share the know-how with me, thanks a lot!

No your HR department is probably right. When your permit gets renewed it will be a 5 year one and not one that has to be renewed each year. That's my guess anyway.

Hi, Medea,

Thanks a lot for your reply. I am afraid that the 5 years one is only valid for EU/US/Canada.

For non-EU, basically only for one-year, but maybe I will get a 2-years version. quite weird, since no official document is about it...l.

Thanks again.

No, they don't do 2 year versions; it's either renewed yearly or a 5 year type.

I can only think it's something like not tied to your job so much, i.e. easier to change employers, or that you're no longer restricted to living in the same canton as your workplace. I don't know of any other restrictions which might be lifted otherwise. Still, you'll find out when you get the new version hopefully.

Btw this is what my translation package comes up with:

Die bisherige Befristung wird aufgehoben = The previous deadline/time limitation is canceled. So it might be a change to a 5 year one.

For non-eu,

open B permit or restrictions removed means you are allowed to change job and NO approval will be required from the labour department for its renewal.

B permit is issued only for one year and some time exceptionally, for two years. 5 years is not possible.
