Question about visa application withdrawal

Hi people!

I have a weird problem about Swiss student visa regulations and could not find the answer anywhere. I hope you can help me out.

I've got an admission for a master program from one of the Swiss universities for fall 2013 and I will submit my student visa application in next few weeks at Swiss embassy in my country. But there is a good chance that very soon I get an admission from another Swiss school too. The results of this school will be available after the date I am going to submit my visa application. This school is in another canton and if I get it's admission I will definitely want to attend it.

Given this preface I have some questions: What should I do in this
situation? Can I just withdraw my visa application some days after
submitting it, then book another appointment and start a new
application with the documents from new school? Or should I hand-in
the new documents and update my visa file? (I questioned about
withdrawal because I assume we cannot have two processing visa
applications at the same time. right?) If I can withdraw my
application, what is the procedure for it?
Does the withdrawal have any bad effect on my next visa application?

Thank you,

Re: Question about visa application withdrawal

How much later is the second one going to be? If it's fairly close to the time when you plan to put in for your visa, I think you would be better to wait and just apply for the one place. Applying and then withdrawing, trying to change the visa or starting off a second application would only confuse things and delay getting the visa on time.

Thank you for your answer. According to my second embassy appointment, the second visa application should be about 5 weeks after the first one. This big gap is because I could not arrange for an earlier appointment for the second application (our Swiss embassy is very busy). Actually, the second appointment is very late and I am afraid when the visa gets ready, it be too late for attending that school. This is the reason why I am going to submit my first application. If I do not get admission from second school, at least I know my visa for one of the schools will be on time.

Re: Question about visa application withdrawal

Then if you can, I'd explain to the embassy what your situation is and ask them for their advice. It may not change anything though. The problem is you only get the visa once the study permit is approved so having two different cantons involved could cause problems. Also the visa will have a date on it saying when you have to enter Switzerland by and if you miss that then the visa will be invalid and you'd have to apply again.

Re: Question about visa application withdrawal

Hi @Shahab,

What did you end up doing? Could you please update us?

ATM, I'm on a situation exactly like yours a year ago. I've submitted my visa application with admission from the university (A) while expecting to get admitted into my preferred university (B). Universities (A) and (B) are in different cantons as well.

Your experience would be of great help to me.

Cheers

@socialnethuz

I didn't get admitted to the second university, and I didn't withdraw my visa application.
