If that is the case, it is easily to exceed 18 months that is considered as the max processing time under the new law.... | | | | | At the current (slow) rate, it seems like there is a good likelihood of exceeding the processing time of 18 months. The least the authorities could do is to give a heads up on the current administrative delay.

| | Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary | Quote: | | | | | My story so far
- end of September / early October sent in all paperwork
- about 6 weeks later I received a confirmation that my application had been received.
- yesterday, received notification that Gemeinde has approved and that the dossier is being handed over to the Canton. | | | | |
Early October 2018 or 2019? without any Interview in Stadthaus?

| | Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary
Well my timeline in Birmensdorf ZH has so far been as follows:
April 2019: Gathered all documents, cost around 250chf
5.May 2019: Sent all papers to Kt. ZH
July 2019: received letter requesting additional document (son on application)
August 2019: Letter from Kt.ZH saying dossier sent the Gemeinde
September 2019: Letter from Gemeinde requesting one original language certificate.
October 2019: Letter stating knowledge test is prerequisite for interview and they had enrolled me for the exam. Bill for 180chf paid and learning guides /sample test received.
December 2019: Knowledge test completed under exam conditions.
Notes about the knowledge test in Kt. Zurich:
Many Gemeindes require this knowledge test now, and some important tips: - Do study for it! It's not hard, but it's not easy
- Concentrate on the Kt. ZH AND the Gemeinde information when learning , and answer these first in the test. You are allowed less wrong answers in these sections and the town will look more closely at this result.
- Many of the questions were true/false, and I am confident around 75% of the correct answers were "false".
- Turn up around 30min early for the examine to relax and make sure you're on time.
I am quite confident I passed, so I expect a big bill and an invite to the local town as the next step, probably in the new year.

I live in Zürich City. | | | | | Were you maybe born in Switzerland or graduated from a school / university here? Otherwise I'm puzzled how you got approved by the commune without an interview |

So how long did you have to wait from the moment you got the invoice for the CHF 100 from SEM until you got approved? I paid my 100 francs at end of october and I am in Geneva.

you have to pay the bill before they start looking at your files and start their process. Might take 3 months - yes that's a realistic timeline, so sometime Jan/Feb 2020 | | | | | too optimistic ? Well, technically I am not supposed to even be alive ...so it works sometimes.
Now insofar as Jan/Feb goes - I'm cool with that. I of course paid the bill the same day .

| | Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary | Quote: | | | | | I'd say you'll be attributed a ceremony in february/march since the OCPM (if I remember correctly) isn't organising any ceremonies in january as they organise all the annual ceremonies at the beginning of each year, meaning the next ones are november 26, december 5. They still don't know the dates for next year. And considering Bern takes around 3 months + a few weeks where there is no progress due to holidays, january will be tough. | | | | | Thanks for the heads up on this and sorry I think I am reading this message board backwards and answering the posts the wrong direction. Well, January is out for me as my partner is having a surgery so I will have to be around to take care of the situation and him. Everything happens for a reason I guess.

Just curious to know if attending the ceremony is mandatory for getting the citizenship ? I remember one of my prior neighbors mentioned that she received her citizenship but never attend any ceremony. Well she got her passport through marriage though. Not sure if it is relevant...e | Quote: | | | | | Thanks for the heads up on this and sorry I think I am reading this message board backwards and answering the posts the wrong direction. In Vaud it's compulsory to attend the citizenship ceremony. It's officially the last step of the process and the ceremony must be attended within 6 months of receiving the first invitation. This article explains it: https://www.24heures.ch/vaud-regions...story/19510486
This has made me hesitant in making travel plans for spring/summer because I would rather not have to delay the ceremony. I believe we get about a months notice in the first invitation, is this correct?

A ceremony depends on the canton. There is a ceremony in Geneva, Vaud and I don't know which other cantons personally. If you get it through marriage there is no ceremony as it's Bern that takes a decision. So in her case she had no ceremony.

27.12.2019: Received letter from the town with the results of my test: 93/100, with 29/30 for the Zurich/town questions, so a clear pass :-) . The letter says they will get in contact regarding the interview, hopefully within Q1 of 2020.

It's if you don't pay that they remind you.
