Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary

Indeed! Zürich Kanton wrote me this week, inviting me to look forward to my CHF 500 invoice, and referring all future queries to the Bund (after advance payment, naturally!)

You need to update your driver's license, as that has your place of origin.
Indeed, the list is actually longer and includes:

-all insurance policies who now need to know you're Swiss and your place of origin as part of your updated ID (as your foreigner ID is now cancelled/expired/invalid)
-the AHV/IV
-Your employer
-Your Bank/Broker
-Your credit cards/Loans/Mortgages/creditors
-Your pensions
-Your utilities (if they're holding a deposit as a foreigner)
-Your mobile operator (as there are stricter ID requirements by law since 9/11)
-Your vehicle registrations
-anywhere else that needed a copy of your permit where that permit no longer exists now, and they need to replace the basis of your ID/residence here (eg Commercial Registry if a Director/Auditor etc)
-Your rental agreement/deposit account
-if involved in court/legal/admin proceedings, the Amt/Tribunal/Court
-Your representatives (Accountant, Lawyer, other)
-Anywhere you've lodged a will or living will or equivalent and you would now be ID'd as a Swiss based on your new Heimatort
-any licensor where you have a license eg Weapons etc
-there may be more depending on your circumstances

It makes sense, but I guess for most the items you should do it when the opportunity arises. E.g. you can do the vehicle registration when you do the MFK.

Congrats! Can I ask if your interview was in person or by telephone? I'm at a point now where I feel I need to approach my town to suggest covid-friendly options such as Skype/Zoom.

Congratulations on that.

What exactly did you get? Just a letter saying you are now a citizen? Or are they starting the process to get you an ID.

Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary

For the people in Vaud waiting to hear back from the Direction de l'état civil they informed me a few months ago that on average it takes them a year. They were right, I just received a letter from them and my file was sent to them early July last year.

The only "ID" you get is the Schriftenempfangsschein/Heimatausweis/Niederlassungsbescheinigung or whatever it is called in your canton.

Once you have that you can apply for Passport and/or ID here: https://www.ch.ch/en/applying-passport-identity-card/
Getting Passport/ID is optional. But the ID card is very handy specially for UK citizens. Which reminds me that I should renew my own one.

I realized a passport was optional, and indeed many Swiss I know don't have one as they can travel within the Schengen area with an ID.

But I didn't realize the ID was optional also. It was impressed on me many years ago that when identifying myself in Switzerland, I should be using the C-Bewilligung and not my UK passport. So if they take the C-Permit away from me, I would need an alternative.

Not that I'm there yet. still awaiting news.

Interview was in-person at the Gemeindehaus. I think some Covid-restriction was lifted last Jun-8, so interview was done the next day. It was a busy day of interviews. There were 3 rooms allocated for interviews, 2 Gemeinderat per room. Our schedule was 17:00 and all 3 rooms were busy while we waited. We there about 30mins and there were people waiting when we got out.
