Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary

The Swiss television sender SRF currently has a DOK series "Schweizer machen" following a few people going through the citizenship process (although I believe it could be a bit dated).

The idea of the program does appear to highlight how difficult some places make the citizenship process.

Quick update Sean Connery: I have received today the Schriftenempfangsschein from the Gemeinde and the request to surrender my C permit for cancellation as it has no value anymore.
I now have the Swiss passport and ID and a letter from my Gemeinde to return my permit

The same here: Swiss passport and ID. The IDs arrived yesterday and the passports today.

A friend of mine (Zürich- City) has never received a letter asking to return his C permit. Who actually send this letter?Gemeinde or Kanton?
Are there other people still having their permit after the process?

Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary

Hello everyone, quick question if I may.

For those of you with experience interacting with the ch@sem.admin.ch mailbox, how long does it usually take to get a response?

Thanks a lot!

I received the letter from the Gemeinde. They just sent me today the c-permit card back that I can keep as souvenir.

The permit per si is cancelled when the naturalization process is completed.

I hope to have clarified your question.

Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary

I would try entering your details on Friday or so in the schweizerpass.ch website. If it allows you to go further, your details are synced to it. It does not take 3 weeks....

Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary

The Zurich Kanton has increased again the number of case offices handling normal applications from 7 to 8 persons, guessing they have an increased workload with COVID.

I tried to ask the British Embassy who to notify, and they gave me a useless UK Visa enquiry number. Anyone have better ideas?

Why Do you think you would need to inform them?
https://www.gov.uk/dual-citizenship

From UK point of view you are British and and for what maters the British citizenship alone is relevant. Having also the Swiss citizenship gives neither any advantages nor any disadvantages (Might be an issue if you work for the secret services or want to become PM). Your Swiss citizenship is only relevant in case you want to renounce the British citizenship.

That just means that Switzerland doesn't do it for you.

There's an implied "if you need to" on the end of that.

Exactly. Some countries (like the Netherlands) have restrictions on additional nationalities, so here the Swiss are simply placing the notification responsibility back on you.

I wish I could do the same, but I have to enter and leave my home country (Australia) on an Aussie passport. This will be expensive, as the AUS and CH passports are respectively the world's 1st and 3rd most expensive.

Not renewing your passport doesn't mean you've acquired another nationality. Mabye you just don't want to travel and instead prefer to live in a goat hut in the Alps.

Personally, I wouldn't ever let a passport lapse. You never know when you might need it to see family or escape whatever place you're in, etc. Trying to get a new passport after it expires is always more of a hassle than if you just renew when it comes time.
