If you look at post #492 from Sponplage, he/she waited around 4-5 months between paying the federal invoice and being notified of being Swiss :-) So you should hear something in then next month :-)
I hope so! In fact, if you look at her timeline, everything has moved much more quickly for her. It is her timeline which made me wonder why ours is taking a bit longer. I'll try to be patient ;-)

I'm assuming Sponplague is in the city of Zurich...these seems to go faster than for those of us in the boondocks.

Or if you're in the Wild West .. I started about the same time as her (Jan 19), and I'm now at the stage where she was in July.

I do feel for you. In the recent SF DOK series on citizenship, people were being told at the end of the the interview the remaining process would take AT LEAST 18 months. In Kt.ZH it rare to be over a year after the interview.

After the test (not the interview) they told me it would take 6-9 months more for all the remaining steps. So normally in the springtime I should be all good.
But then again, they also say now it must not take longer than 18 months from start to finish, and I'm at 23 and patiently counting

COVID has definitely been an issue. I encountered a 6-month delay at the Gemeinde because of it.

All processes filmed in this doku are under old law pre 2018 so your mileage may vary

I initially thought there would be a delay due to Covid, but SponPlague had her interview this year, whereas we had our interview 12 months ago now.

As mentioned previously, cases are not handled in one big queue, but assigned to case officers based on the the starting letter of your family name. Some will be more efficient / present than others, and there has been a high turnover of staff. So it comes down to good/bad luck in this instance. +/- a few months, it will happen

Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary

Shall I assume all of you speak excellent German (or other national language)? I speak conversational bad grammar German and delaying my application for 2 more years!

I know a couple who speak no local languages and just recently became Swiss I don't know them well enough to dig and ask personal questions.

You need to have B1 competency...ie. when you have the interview, you need to be able to answer the simply questions they ask, like "why do you want to be Swiss?". Integration is an "achievement you need to unlock" to apply for citizenship, it's not a free ride.

Do you mean your name starts with "M"? So does mine, but from November there is a new case officer for us..hopefully she is motivated to clear the backlog!

I think for all those who were hoping to see some actioning this side of Christmas, I think it is more likely we will have to wait a few weeks more now.

In my last discussion with the Gemeinde before they forwarded my documents, I asked if I needed to get more documents for my newborn Son. They said they had included everything.

Now I got a letter requesting the Zivilstand extract, residency extract and copy of permit . This will be another delay

Don't think of it as a delay; things will take neither less nor more time that they're meant to take. The final outcome is nevertheless inevitable and every second nudges you closer.
