Good to know, thanks UncleB! Hopefully that means mine isn't far behind, as I think I'm about a week after you in the process. Glad to hear that you're a step closer in this journey, thanks for keeping us updated! I'll write on here as soon as my bill comes in. | Quote: | | | | | I got my SEM bill today. Does every Gemeinde in Kt.Zurich omits interview for persons who have studied in Switzerland or only some of them?

| | Re: Normal Naturalisation - applicant diary | Quote: | | | | | I agree with UncleB. On the other hand, you don't know whether they booked it correctly and whether they are processing it. Being that this is Switzerland, they probably are; the best recourse you have is ask your Gemeinde/Kanton/the person who is handling your dossier. They can tell you whether they have heard anything from the SEM. | | | | | Just to add to this point, if one pays via QR bill, then it is impossible for the payment to go missing or be booked incorrectly. So rest assured that they did get the money and you are in the queue.

Now it's only Swiss education up to and including high school that exempts one from the interview, getting tertiary education (a university degree etc.) no longer counts.

The consultation phase was finished 30 September 2022. The new law and new ordinance (draft) might come in force 2023.
As for now, still the old law (just a skeleton as it was incompatible with the "new" federal law from 2018), and specially the old ordinance from 2018 apply. People with tertiary education (a university degree etc.) are still exempt from the test. In all communes of canton Zurich.

Hell Uncle B,
Not sure of the difference between the two, this is a letter confirming that all is done and the answer is positive, but pending ceremony and enters into effect after the oath ceremony.

Hello everyone
By accident I stumbled across the forum .A very interesting exchange!!
My congratulations to the golden letter
I have a question:
In September 2021 I submitted my application for naturalization in the city of Zurich. On December 4th I received a letter from Gemeindeamt saying that my application had been sent to the municipality where I live (Wohngemeinde Stadt Zürich). Since then I have not received any further information. It has been more than 13 months since I submitted my application and more than 10 months since I received the letter. Hence, I didn't even get an appointment for the naturalization interview. Is this a normal process in Zurich? Does anyone have experience in this regard?
Thank you very much!

That is a very long wait time (even more compared to Zurich standards). Just write your municipality and ask them (or go in person), surely somewhere they have forgot to process your files.

So much for Swiss efficiency lol

Just a quick question on the passport: Mine didn't come with my signature on it...rather there is a blank line on page 01 for a signature. Do they really leave it up to you to sign your own passport???
I find it very strange that on the signature is not pre-printed like on the ID card (and my AUS passport).

Got my bill today, UncleB! Paid it right away. Getting closer! Rarely have I been so excited to receive a bill in my mailbox...
For the wider group, my timeline so far in case it's useful (applying in the commune and canton of Geneva):
- Submitted application in February 2022
- Was contacted for the cantonal interview in late July 2022
- Had the cantonal interview in mid-August 2022
- Was approved by the commune (ville de Geneve) at the end of August 2022
- Received 100 CHF bill from SEM mid-October 2022 | Quote: | | | | | You’ll get your bill this week, it will be a QR code payment. Pay it as quickly as you can. And I’ll race you to the finish line!! | | | | | | This user would like to thank writerGVA for this useful post: | |

Let’s see if something about the signature changes.
