Re: Residence permit for family

In all likelihood, since your family has dependent visas for the UK based on your being employed there that visa would cease to be valid once you're no longer employed in the UK. No?

Hello everybody,

I have been going through this forum and could not find any similar situation thread.

I am an indian recently came to switzerland. I work in zurich and living in WIL (because my company is in WIL so have to stay in WIL).

I have got my work permit (valid for 9 month )approval and stamping on my visa but still waiting for permit card.

Issue :

I was planning to apply for residence permit for my family and the documents have been returned by local gaimainde here in WIL saying that they need indian police clearance for my wife and all document need to be translated into german.

Since I was working in UK so my wife and daughter has got uk dependent work permit on which they can travel switzerland. so my employer suggested me to bring my family here in switzerland on uk dependent work permit and then apply for residence permit.

But after going through verious thread on this forum I am doubtfull whether the extension is really possible with in switzerland or they have to go out and get stamping on their passport.

My employer suggested me that they can stay here for 3 months on UK dependnt visa and during this time my employer here will apply for their residence permit and I was promised that they will get it with in three months.

Could anyone help me here and let me know

- How long can they stay in switzerland on UK dependent work permit which is valid till 2010.
- Is it possible to get extension while they are in switzerland on above permit without going out of switzerland.
- Are there any other options so that they can stay with me for next 6 month ( sinnce my permit is valid till August )

I have booked tickets for my family and they will be in switzerland in next week and I would appreciate if anyone can provide me some information on this or have anyone been through such situations.

Thanks
Regards
Vinod Singh
There are plenty of Indians who will be able to provide first hand experience but... From what I know an Indian citizen needs a visa to enter Switzerland. IF they hold a residence permit in an EU country such as the UK then they do not need a visa.

Assuming your work permit is at the same time a resident permit you will have no problem having your family stay for 3 months. Thereafter they need to leave and come back in again... Officially they cannot simply drive over the border and return but hey...

As for having them stay for the length of your contract this is not permitted (officially) on a short term contract. So I do not know what your employer is thinking of here. You need to be on a permanent permit ie B/C in order to have a family follow you here.

Well nine months is short (less than a year), so you will get an L and I do not think this depends on the Canton.

Cheers,

Chris
