Food hygiene certificates for Switzerland

Hi all,

I was wondering if anybody has had experience with obtaining food prep and hygiene certificates in Zürich. What would be the best route to follow. I am looking into the possibility of setting up a food based business here and any positive advice would be welcome.

I suggest checking at your canton and commune offices to see what they advise.

Go to your local gemeinde office and they will give you the contact details of the relevant department. Of course, it will vary from Canton to Canton, we got our is St Gallen. They send an inspector to see your food prep and storage areas and want to see you procedures: cleaning schedules, stock control, product traceability etc..... they are pretty reasonable.

I get random visits in Zurich to see what we are doing, to be honest, they are more interested in checking that all ingredients on foreign sourced products have all ingredients translated. It's easy money in fines for them if they're not.

Thanks for the replies and sorry for the late reply, I was away. Of course I will check with the Gemeinde in Zürich, but I wanted to know if anyone had a bit more info on what was needed prior to applying. I assume I can get a certificate in food handling for Switzerland before I have found a prep location/kitchen. Does anyone know where these exams can be taken?

Reviving this thread, I found the Swiss G1 basic hygiene course, but I wonder if anyone found a provider/equivalent in English ?

you need to have done a quite extensive vocational qualification. there are people who have this that 'rent' their services to be the qualified person for small food and beverage outfits. you basically pay them and they give you some advice and be the registered person but do little else.
