Swiss Dependent Visa from India - Need Help

Hello Everyone,

I am looking for small help from folks who are in Swiss from India with spouse.

I am in Geneva from last 2 months on L permit and my company has applied for my wife's dependent Visa for which we already got Authorization letter from Swiss and a month back we had submitted all documents to Swiss consulate in Mumbai for Visa stamping.

After several follow-ups with Swiss consulate in Mumbai we have received an update where they are saying that Passport is ready with Visa but they cannot release it as they need to do some internal Swiss legalization on my marriage certificate for which they will need 8 weeks once we submit all documents which they have requested now and fees would be around 31,000 rs. I had done normal legalization of my marriage certificate which is required for any dependent Visa so I am not sure what kind of legalization they are talking about now and I am not a Swiss resident so not sure why Swiss needs to legalize my certificate.

Did anyone of you experienced this while working on dependent visa for your spouse?

Thanks in advance for any inputs that you guys can provide

I do not understand what you meant by "internal Swiss legalization".

In my experience, translation of your marriage certificate is the only requirement done with an authorize translator after authentication from your department of foreign affairs.

If you read this document http://www.eda.admin.ch/etc/medialib...2012092012.pdf

It says somewhere "This Consulate General reserves the right to get the marriage certificate verified by an authorised person. The costs involved, in such a case, would be higher (approx. INR 11,360/-)." I guess they are talking about this.

I understand if they say that they need to verify but here they are asking about Swiss Legalization which is completely new and the cost is also very high 31,000

Sorry to know that mumbai consulate still have stupid people. Anyways, what they want to do now is something that should be done before issuing visa. Its getting the certificate attested by ministry of external affairs.

The office is at nariman point where you get it done via agent @ 1500 INR.

Ask your friend in Mumbai to take back the certificate and get it done.

Also, go to your migration office in Geneva and explain this situation. I am sure they will wave off this process as the visa is alraedy granted.

Hope this helps.

Hi Kashif,

Thanks for your reply but what you are saying is the legalization which I have already done on my certificate.

Check attached screenshot which shows the attestations that I have.

Hi.. What you show in the picture is just the legalization of the marriage certificate by the Ministry of Home Affairs, this makes the Indian document to be legal in Europe.
However, the next step is the verification of your marriage by the Swiss embassy in India (to proof that it is a true one).
Basically, they go to your home in India and ask your family and neighbors about your marriage. They will ask about your wife's name, her parents names, siblings, birth places, and all kind of questions... they might ask to show a wedding picture, so be prepared!
As I said, this is done by requirement of the Swiss embassy, and only when verified, they will put their stamp.
The whole process takes about 3 months or more in some cases.

All the best

Yup so this is what I understand to be additional check on marriage certificate as mentioned on their site for which cost is 11,000 but they have not mentioned anything about legalization process in their office for which cost is 31,000

So basically they are saying they want to have one more stamp which will be done by them internally

Re: Swiss Dependent Visa from India - Need Help

Lets say their verifier is in x part of India and he has to visit your place in y part of India and your wife's place in z part of India. Can he do all travel, food, accommodation etc in 11,000Rs?

Re: Swiss Dependent Visa from India - Need Help

When we were in process to get the birth certificate for my daughter we had to do the same process. Even after getting state home ministry and external affairs attestation the embassy does another verification. The costs are for that and its an estimate. They even refund after deducting the actuals.
