Visa work permit for Non EU Au pair

Hello, I am an American and have been offered a position as an Au Pair in Lausanne. She was told that it is very difficult to obtain a work permit for a non eu Au pair.. is this true? What type of permit will she have to apply for for me? Also she wants me to live out, so is the work permit what will be necessary for me to rent/sublease housing? Thanks for any help you can offer ... I am trying to work legally this time

Re: Visa work permit for Non EU Au pair

you will get L permit.
I had problem to rent my first apartment in Lausanne with L permit. You can try to rent the sublease apartment with some foreign students.

In some respects au pairs are treated a little differently from other workers, more like students. It is pretty easy for the family to arrange a work permit as long as certain conditions are met - the main one being that the family is a native speaker of the local language. Where this is not the case then yes, it can be very difficult as the family has to justify the purpose of the au pair. Living out won't help the cause .

Hello,

There are strict rules applying to aupair entry conditions and one of those is that the family must provide you with a room within their house. If they do not do this then the application is rejected straight off - you need to be treated like a family member. It is very straightforward if not simple to obtain a work permit for an aupair if the conditions of entry are met.

This I have never seen, although the aupair must not share a native language with the parents of the children nor be a native speaker of the local language.

This document might be useful to read. note where it says here German it will be French if you are staying in Lausanne. Note also it says staying with the family - this is a condition.
