My first suggestion would be that you search the stickies in the various areas of the forum and see how much basic knowledge you can acquire so that your questions are more specific.
It's Saturday and any EFer with any sense is out enjoying the sun on the lakes and the views of the snow covered mountains. I'm off to join them now.

Re: UK Citizen: What permits do I need?

Firstly, neither market trading nor self-employment work in the same way as in the UK. Yes, there are markets, but only once or twice a week usually so I'm not sure you'd make enough money. You'd need a permit from any city/town/village you want to set your stall up in I would think so that might be costly if you need to move around from place to place. It would also depend on what you want to sell, many of the smaller markets are just local farmers selling produce and not things like clothes, shoes, etc.

You can move here as a job seeker for 3 months to try and find work. If you can't find anything in that time then you can ask for an L permit for another 3 months - this can be extended up to a year.

Self-employment, well it can be done, but you need to prove to the Swiss authorities that your business idea is viable with things like a business plan, financial funding, etc. If they don't think it will work, then you won't get a self-employed permit.

As well as the stickies Longbyt suggests here are some links to the Swiss official websites which will also give you more info:

https://www.bfm.admin.ch/content/bfm...gehoerige.html

https://www.ch.ch/en/becoming-self-employed/

http://www.kmu.admin.ch/themen/00614...x.html?lang=en

However, unless you can speak/understand written French and/or German well it's going to be very hard to run a market stall or find work of any kind. How do you expect to communicate with your customers? English isn't a Swiss language, though a lot of people speak it to varying degrees. Plus all official documents will be in either French or German, not English. This will apply for childcare too, plus you may need qualifications if you're thinking of working in a school/nursery.

I suggest you get hold of a copy of "Living and Working in Switzerland" by David Hampshire. It's full of useful info on moving and living here. You can order from your local bookshop or on the Internet.

Re: UK Citizen: What permits do I need?

Just to add to what has been said, how old is your son? You said in an earlier post that you don't want to move until he has finished school, do you mean high school?

As you have probably discovered by now the Swiss education system is quite different to the UK one and by the time students leave school they are usually fluent in two if not three languages. Also only a small proportion go to university and many students go into apprentiships after school. Plan carefully how your son will cope, there are quite a few threads already about teenagers nd older children coming and how to get permits for them, how they cope etc.
