Advantages of having an EU passport

My wife and I are both Australian citizens. We came to Switzerland with her job two years ago and were issued with Ausweis B which state that we are Australian.

Not long after we arrived I was able to obtain an Irish passport.

When I was offered a part time job I was told that there were no problems due to the Irish passport but that changed when they realised my ausweis pass had me listed as Australian.

So now we both have Ausweis B with our employers' details and our nationality listed as Australian.

I am teaching part time and substituting at the same school. I may want the flexibility to substitute at other schools or in other Kantons.

Can I do this on my current permit?

Today our renewal papers arrived. Is there any advantage in changing my nationality to Irish? Is this a difficult process?

Re: Advantages of having an EU passport

IMHO any EU nationality rocks in Switzerland. You easily get a first 5 year B permit which is not tied to any canton or a job. This could be extended to a C permit.I wish I had this option, am bloody sick of extending my permits, standing in queues , thinking that my plans are at the disposal of some loony siting in Bern. To make the long story short..change the nationality to Irish..it should be simple..go to the gemeinde and show your new passport..it might take a bit longer but will bring benefits which are well worth it.

Re: Advantages of having an EU passport

That would be quite easy to change I believe.

Do both of you have Irish passports?

An Aussi mate of mine took Irish passport while his wife remained
Aussi. This gave him the option of returning to Oz as well as having
the unlimited right to work in Switzerland.
