Work Permit for B Permit Holder

Hi
I moved to CH in August 2013 with my partner as a dependant and I have a 5 year B permit, I am a UK passport holder. I have received a job offer to work here but I have been told by HR that my residents permit is not a work permit, is this correct and how do I get one? I am due to start work in a week!
Please help!
Thanks in advance

Re: Work Permit for B Permit Holder

take your work contract to your Kreisburo. It's a formality to change, you're EU.

Re: Work Permit for B Permit Holder

How about a non-EU (Australian) resident B permit holder? Because my card shows "Ohne Erwerb". Is that difficult for me or my future employer to apply a work permit?

Any suggestions are welcome!

Cheers,

Elvis

Re: Work Permit for B Permit Holder

Thanks for the prompt reply, Sean.

As a basic German speaker and a B permit holder with "Ohne Erwerb", my chances to get a job in Switzerland are obvious lower than Swiss and EU citizens. Well, fingers cross, I hope I can find an employer who wants me though...

Again, thanks for your input, Sean.

Elvis

Re: Work Permit for B Permit Holder

Hi everyone, I just received my B permit yesterday. Right in time for a job interview on Monday. Totally happy about it, until I saw this:

Aufenthaltszweck
Nicht berechtigt zur Erwerbstätigkeit in der Schweiz

Does this truly mean that I'm not allowed to look for a job and accept one here in CH?
Coming from the Netherlands I had thought that I would get a residence and work permit, not just a residence permit. So now what? Go to the Gemeinde and ask them for a work permit?

Re: Work Permit for B Permit Holder

Hi Profunda. The laws have changed and there is now a quota in place for b working permits for EU citizens, which is probably why you got that kind of permit. You can still look for a job and have interviews, it just means, your future employer will have to apply for a work permit for you and if accepted, your b permit will change

You have an NL passport? If you're EU, it's a formality and you can work.

Re: Work Permit for B Permit Holder

Yep, got a NL passport. So totally EU when it comes to that. But geez, what a hassle. It took 3.5 month to get this permit to begin with.
Yesterday I was so happy to find the permit in my mailbox, until I read the fine print...

No, you have to find a job first. It's to do with the quota limit restrictions that were brought in for EU-17 nationals in June this year. Basically, you're now under the same restrictions as EU-8, i.e. allowed to come here as a job seeker to look for work, but the permit only allows residence until you find a job.

Once you get a job offer you employer will apply to change your residence permit for a work also one.

Oh, I'm so sorry.. Totally forgot to mention it.
No, I got a B Ausweis for 5 years. Probably because I have a contract of indefinite duration with the Dutch company I still work for.

Actually I'm a EU-25 national. But I don't think that makes much difference then.

Ah no, I only have 1 passport: the NL one and that's the one I used to register and get the permit. But NL belongs to the EU-25 countries.

Okay, you've confused me now. You work for a Dutch company, but are now living in Switzerland? Are you supposed to be working for them here too or what?

Re: Work Permit for B Permit Holder

Haha, that is exactly how Gemeinde Bern reacted!

I was working for a Dutch company when I decided to move to CH to live with my boyfriend. That Dutch company didn't feel for letting me go yet, so they offered me to keep the job for the time being and work from home (via internet) in Bern. Win-win: I get the room to look for a job here and they have time to find a replacement for me.

But since it's a 'Dutch job' that comes with a Dutch income, I would much rather go look for a job here in Switzerland and thus terminate the contract I have with the Dutch company as soon as I've found one here.
