Married to Swiss, [naturalization] application in process, how long can it take?

Hi everyone,
Living in the USA - my American wife of ten years has applied for Swiss citizenship by virtue of marriage to a Swiss (that would be me) - our children are Swiss, she's fluent in French, we have travelled four or five times to Switzerland with pictures, passport stamps, and other documents to prove it, and she had what appeared to be a very positive interview at the Swiss Consulate in the States over a year ago - she knew all the governmental info having read the 100 page book assembled by the Embassy (in French, the night before), memorized all the Cantons in the order of admission to the Federation, etc. Some of my relatives in Switzerland said they had been approached to verify our family's travel history as well. However, the Consulate has not been able to provide any status updates or timing on when a decision might be made. My feeling is that there is the possibility of irritating an official in Switzerland should we push too hard to try to get more information, but I don't have any more thoughts. Given the ongoing debates on immigration and the EU, I don't want to get our situation caught up in that - we have no plans to move to Switzerland now, it's just that our family is Swiss and I want her to be part of that.

Does anyone have any thoughts on how long the process might take and is there any way to appropriately seek further information? Many thanks!

Re: Married to Swiss, application in process, how long can it take?

Well, I don't know how long it takes from abroad, but some people on the forum who live here have obtained Swiss citizenship in around 18 months and for others the process can take 2-3 years.

The only definite (sort of) info I can find officially is:

"Duration
The simplified naturalisation procedure usually takes about one and a half years on average."

https://www.ch.ch/en/simplified-naturalisation/

So hopefully you'll hear something soon.

Thanks. Appreciate the information, will try watchful waiting. The Consulate did suggest updating them with information on additional trips, visits, etc.

Our situation was different as although I applied from abroad, our family had lived in Switzerland for years, we were returning to Switzerland from an overseas posting and we owned property. My interview was conducted in two official languages. From the initial application to approval the process was about 18 months.

Over the course of 10 years, 4 or 5 visits is not really very much - unless each visit is an extended stay (a long summer vacation, for example). It is frustrating but I think you are correct to just be patient and not chase anyone. If you were planning to relocate to Switzerland there might be a sense of urgency but that is not the case.
