Chinese visa application for U.S. citizen

Hello!

Trying to figure out the current process for applying for a Chinese business visitor visa at the Embassy in Bern. U.S. citizen, traveling in March. From what I can tell, you just drop off the application with documentation at the Embassy during business hours (9am to noon) and then go back to pick up your passport when the visa has been issued, which should be about 4-5 days later...but I don't know whether that's still accurate. How does the Embassy communicate with applicants to let them know that the visa has been issued? Can the application be dropped off and the passport picked up by someone other than the applicant?

Thanks to anyone who can provide advice!

I remember that they will give you a receipt after you hand in your application, and then on the indicated day you show up with the receipt and they will give you back your passport with the visa stamped.

It seems to me that someone else can go for you with your receipt. But now sure now. Better to call them and ask.

When I got mine, the process was just as you describe.

They don't contact you - you simply go back on the day they say and collect it. I didn't do that in person (I got member Sprinz to collect it for me, with my receipt) and in fact you probably don't need to drop it off in person either.

Thanks! Seems too good to be true, but I guess I shouldn't complain!

As far as I know, some Chinese-run travel agencies based in Geneva can do it for you for a small fee. For example: http://www.eurasie.ch/en/aboutus.htm and http://www.tiantan.ch/en
