Schengen visa during permit-prolongation, and phone no. for Italian consulat Zurich

Hope this info can be useful.

The Zurich migration office needs 2-3 months for the annual permit (B) prolongation (even if we have been here for 2yrs and our work contract is until 2yrs later). Some non-EU people (who needs visa) usually think they are stuck in Switzerland before they receive the new card.
But, at least in Italian consulate in Zurich, we still CAN apply for Schengen visa during this period. In addition to the usual required documents, you need to have a letter from the migration office (maybe from kreisburo also ok) stating "until when the new permit is valid". Note: a letter only saying that your permit is under prolongation is NOT enough.

FYI, the telephone number for making visa appointment with Italian consulate in this website below (0900...) is no longer correct.

For Zurich, you can call this number:
044 - 286 62 22
Thursday 10:00-12:00
Saturday 10:00-12:00

Do call as early as possible (>2 months before the date of your trip) since most of the time nobody picks up the phone (it may take 1-2 weeks before you can finally make an appointment).

Tips: in case you need to ask questions / information from the Italian consulate Zurich, the fastest way is to go there directly. You cannot enter the consulate without an appointment of course, but the guard in the front door is friendly and will help you ask your questions inside. Calling is not the most efficient way. I tried to call all the numbers mentioned in the website for many times, nobody picked up the phone.

italian consulat zurich, italian embassy, permit prolongation, schengen visa, visa appointment
