Need info about moving to Zurich with my family from India

My company, a leading IT Company in India, which has got a branch in Zurich wants me to go to Zurich for 1 year. They are paying me 100K Swiss Franc annually.

Now they want to follow :
Plan A
(1) Go to Zurich. Stay for 3 months.
(2) Then apply for Dependent L Permit.
(3) Then come back and take my dependents with me.

I want to follow:
Plan B
(1) Get my L Permit.
(2) Get Dependent L Permit for my wife and kid.
(3) Then start for Zurich with my family.

My company says that it is not possible to apply for Dependent L Permit if I am not staying in Switzerland in L Permit.

Is this TRUE ?
I do not want to leave my wife and 2 yr old daughter in India alone for 3 months. Is it impossible to fly with my family to Zurich the first time itself.

Thanks in advance,
Your precious suggestions will decide if I acceppt this job at all.

Thats not quite true. Your L and the dependent L can be applied for together. However, the dependent permit usually takes more time than the your L permit and that could be the reason why your company is saying so.

Re: Need info about moving to Zurich with my falimy from India

In Plan A..
If you are coming here in 12 months work permit
Then after getting the house , ie with rental agreement only
you can apply for Dependant Permit.
Getting a house in Zurich is hardest job in Zurich especially for
Non EU with L Permit.
After Getting house if you have to wait for min 8 weeks to get
your Dependant Permit.
This may be quite annoyingyou but this is the fact

In Plan B
When you process your dependant permit from India
it is easier to get and no headches. But again you come
here you have to search for a house as hotels are costly to afford.

My suggestion is get your dependant permit processed in India rather
than coming here and after 3 months to process.

One more interesting fact.
Zurich is superb city to live
No hassles in daily transporation , Pure atmosphere,
Less crime rate

Re: Need info about moving to Zurich with my falimy from India

I am hearing that since November 2007 there is a third party known as VFS-India who process Switzerland Visa in India.

If I apply for my L permit and Dependent L permits together from India, how long does it take to process both by VFS. ?

Will there be any in-person inspection to my residence in India?

It will be a great help, if some Indian who has processed L Permit after November 2007 to Switzerland clarify this.

In the end, thanks to all the helpful responses earlier.

Re: Need info about moving to Zurich with my falimy from India

Hi Basu,

I am not sure if there is VFS office in Kolkatta, but I applied in VFS New Delhi office in March 08. The link is http://www.vfs-ch-in.com/

After getting all my permit papers from canton, I applied there and got visa stamped in two days. They did not did any background verification for me, as I was coming alone. But yes, I think for dependant they will do the checking.

hope this helps.
