Re: Picking-up Family Reunification Visa Outside of U.S.

dear Northernsong,

Thanks for the update! I am in a similar situation so it is good to read through your experience. Thanks for sharing.

Just wanted to check - you didn't have to submit your passport to the San Francisco consulate? I am an EU citizen and he is US citizen. I am hoping that we could also have our application transferred to Germany or Paris, I am just a little confused as the embassy website says that it requires you to send in the passport.

Looking forward to your reply.

Hi Heike,

No, we didn't have to submit the passport in person to apply for the visa, only a photocopy. I'm not sure if different embassies/consulates have different rules, so if you're not applying through SF then it may be different (also, I suppose things could have changed during the past year).

You do definitely have to submit the passport in person to receive the visa, though --- in our case, we would have taken the passport to Paris/Stuttgart to get the visa stamped into it. You can always call the embassy to ask them, too.

Best of luck with your move! Let us know how it goes!
