question about bringing non eu family members

Hi all,

Thanks for taking the time to look into my question.

I am an EU citizen whom have been offered a job in Zurich.

I want to bring my non-EU future spouse to Switzerland " permanently" once we get married overseas

my question are:
1- I think I will be given B permit when I arrive, will this entitle to bring her?
2- Will she be given the right to live an d work here ?
3- does she need to apply for a visa in her non eu country to come?
4- if yes, under what category she needs to apply.
5- don't seem to find any section on a swiss government site about that especially I am an Eu and she is not.

Re: question about bringing non eu family members

It depends where she is currently living. If she is in the Shengen zone she can come here and apply for her permit at commune you are living in.

if she is living in a non Shengen country she will need to aply for a D entry visa in her contry of residence before coming country.

You will apply for family reunification. That is the category.

You will have to ask the authorities what paper work is needed. It can change a bit from place to place, situation to situation.

Re: question about bringing non eu family members

Thanks miniMIA,

After search the term reunification, I came a cross this

https://www.ch.ch/en/family-reunification-eu-efta/

My question is:

does she need to apply for a visa to come here first or do I need to apply for a reunification first?

If she does, what type of visa she needs to apply for? a visitoror tourist ?

Re: question about bringing non eu family members

She needs to apply for a visa via her local embassy.

If you google you will find the web page of the swiss representation near her. They will describe the process and required documents to apply for a D visa (family reunification).

Typically you/she will need to provide apostilled copies of her birth certificate, your marriage certificate, and an extract of her criminal records, plus maybe proof of your income. But on this the responsible embassy can surely help you more accurately.

The length of this process can easily be 4+ months, depeding on country.

Re: question about bringing non eu family members

I think you apply at the same time.
You apply for family reunification here in Switzerland… at the same time she apples for a D visa at the Swiss embassy where she is living.

Definitely not a tourist visa. She's not coming as a tourist. She needs a D visa which if for the purpose of joining her family, ie, you. As IM says you do it at the same time. It is the reunification process that is the basis for her D visa.

Where is she resident?
