Non-EU B permit expiring soon, recently unemployed

I have read a lot of threads on this and do not want to be redundant, but I have not had my specific question answered. I have a non-EU B visa that is not restricted and my partner has a non-EU B visa under mine. I am two years into a three year visa.

I was recently unemployed and my RAV benefits are supposed to start in a few weeks. So far, both the RAV and Migrationsamt have indicated that I can continue to look for a job after my visa expires as my visa will somehow be renewed. However, so far I have not applied for the visa extension or gotten my first official approval from RAV as I await my first official non-employed meeting with RAV.

Looking over these recent posts has me nervous. I have worked in a professional job in Switzerland for over 4 years and I have some good prospects that are likely to provide a new job within 1-3 months of visa expiry. My partner is additionally non-EU, but the B-visa is linked to mine. So of course, we are both now concerned.

My partner also lost a job, but just recently (after me). So to switch the marriage dependancy from one partner to another no longer makes sense to keep the B visa going....

Lastly, my employer would usually fill out the form to renew my visa each year, now who does it? RAV?

Ugh....so many questions! Thanks for any help/advice.

Yes, from the sounds of it both Zurich migration and RAV will agree to extend your permit (not visa) if you haven't found a job by then. Don't worry too much yet if you still have a year to go on the permit because you could have a new job long before then. :)

Thanks...on my card visa in my hand, it expires in a month. However, when I got the original documentation two years ago, the visa was for three years renewed annually. So, of course, I am worried about what happens in 1 month. Thanks for responding!!!

Well, as they seem to be willing to renew it I'd go ahead and make the application to do so. After all the latest it's supposed to be done is 2 weeks before the expiry date. If you've already talked to migration and RAV about it I would expect them to take the matter in hand once the migration office receives your renewal application.

Make sure to do both if your partner's is tied to yours and expires at the same time.

Start to find out what paperwork you need and get it together or find out when you'll receive it and when you need to submit the documents. Don't wait for RAV or the Canton to just send you documents, call them and find out. It is a horrible situation and I feel for you, we are also a similar situation regarding wether we will stay or not. We are EU nationals but we're on 6month L permits for last five years, and now we are being checked and asked for alot of documentation that they didn't need before. Husband is entitled to the unemployment until next October but that is only if we are granted the permit. Don't hold back, find out from them what you need to do and stay focussed. I wish you the best.

I had the same issue (may be my case is worst):
My B permit expired end of April; Job contract finished at the same time.
To answer your question:
No worry. You will receive your insurance grant from RAV for sure. I had mine on 1st June when I was renewing my permit (Yes, I have no valid permit for the gap period).
