Italian citizen working in Zurich. What's the situation for NON-EU wife and son?

Hi,

I have just arrived in Zurich and I'm still reading (a lot) about the migration process and all the paperwork, but please I'd like to know the personal experience of someone who passed the same or similar situation.

I'm Italian (and Brazilian) and my wife is from Dominican Republic. My son at the moment (18 months old) is only registered as Brazilian and Dominican.

We went to the Kreisburo this week to get registered as a family and everything went OK. I've paid the tax for the whole family and now both, my wife and child have to go to the Imigration Office for photo and fingerprints.

My questions:

1) How long does it normally take for me to receive the work permit? Is it standard type of permit, since I'll be a permanent employee or it's only given after the completion of probation period?

2) after my wife and baby getting the card from the Kreisburo, can both go and come back to Switzerland anytime they want? Of course here I'm talking also about leaving the Schengen Area.

3) Can my wife work with that or is there another process to get her work permit?

Thanks!!!!

Welcome to the forum and to Switzerland.

It'll take a few weeks to get the permits issued. There's no probation period for permits, you should get a B permit straight away. Your wife's will initially be for residence only, but if she finds a job all she needs to do is take her contract to the migration office to have the work part added on.

And yes, once they have their permits they can come and go as they like. Just remember to take the permits as well as the passports with you.

I believe that you will ge the B permit only if you have a permanente contract if not its L?
Your wife will get the same permit has you.

Re: Italian citizen working in Zurich. What's the situation for NON-EU wife and son?

Great! Thanks for clarifying!

Antoher question comes from the answer about the time the Kreisburo takes to give me the Work permit:

I moved from Dublin (IE) to Zurich and all my stuff is with a moving company. This company says I have to send them a copy of my work permit so they can present to the Customs office at the Swiss border. Would the confirmation paper that the Kreisburo gave me when I did the registration be enough?

If I really have to wait I think the moving company has to wait all these 4 weeks and therefore they will charge me for storage, I think....

Has anyone been on this situation?

Thanks!

Yes, the paper version should be enough for customs clearance...
