Unemployment when returning to Switzerland after 2 years abroad

Hi

I had a C-permit in Kanton Zug which I "deposited" when I deregistered.

I left my job voluntarily two years ago.

I now want to return to Switzerland and I would like to know if I would be eligible for any unemployment benefits upon my return.

I am an EU national.

Thanks

No, you will get no unemployment help, as it is based on your last 2 years earnings,

http://www.englishforum.ch/search2.php?q=unemployment

You won't get your 'C' back, as you left more than 6 months ago, (few exceptions)

Permit C, leaving Switzerland

Sorry it is probably bad news, but welcome to the Forum...

Thanks for the replies regarding the unemployment benefits.

@sbrinz:
I have a "Zusicherung der Aufenthaltsbewilligung" from the Amt Fuer Migration in Zug that's valid until 29th of Sep 2017.

I was of the impression (and that is certainly also what I told the lady at the AfM) that I my permit would be "stored" until the 29th of Sep. 2017.

Can you confirm that I am mistaken?

Yes, if it's been put on hold you will get it back. But no unemployment help I'm afraid.

On the back page of the 'C' permit it states you can apply for an absent period abroad of up to 4 years. This is done in writing, within the first 6 months, and after you have left Switzerland. The approval is only usually given for employment by a Swiss company, or in Swiss military service.

Re: Unemployment when returning to Switzerland after 2 years abroad

Sorry I cannot confirm, but after reading stuff on this forum: after 6 months absence, unless you are sent abroad to work by a Swiss company, your permit is not on ice, it is down the drain (I did write above "few exceptions")

You would do well to learn how to search the Forum. In the box at top right, type: C +Permit ... and then choose Google search. Please also realize that things change very slowly here, and a post from 2009 is probably still valid.

I think you'll find you can ask to "out on ice" for up to 2 years but you have to ask before you leave and it has to be accepted by the canton also before you leave

Re: Unemployment when returning to Switzerland after 2 years abroad

I doubt it. I assume you've been in the States for the past 2 years which means you haven't been contributing either in Switzerland or any other EU state. As such your salary - which the benefits are based on - has been zero as far as unemployment benefits here are concerned. If you have been working in an EU country for the past 12 months then I think you might be entitled to 3 months unemployment.
