In the IAESTE requirements is:
The internship must be a compulsory part of the curriculum, which must be confirmed by an official letter from the university. (In case there is/are internship(s) mentioned in the student's CV during the present study course which fulfil the compulsory internship duration, there is no claim for a further internship in Switzerland.)

What is if i already did the internship already and just say i didnt do it?
Are the swiss government calling the university?
I wonder how it would go if I applied for a U.S. work visa and lied on the application because I wasn't really eligable

Good luck with that. Always a terrific idea to lie on visa applications And as said before, the university needs to confirm that the internship is compulsory, in writing that is. Without that letter, the authorities will not process the application.

So they'd effectively be asking the uni to lie on their behalf as well. Honestly, some people take the biscuit, they really do.

I'm bored of answering threads and questions like this seriously. From now on I think I'm just going to go with "yeah that sounds like a great plan, go for it"

Re: internship american student

Even if the uni hands out a document saying that an internship is compulsory;

I doubt it would be of any relevance, as OP is talking about Freiburg/Breisgau, not Fribourg/Freiburg (Uechtland).

But the answers from that Point on suggested that nobody cares. Which made me think it might be worth repeating.

Re: internship american student

What makes you think we don't care or that Freiburg vs Fribourg matters?

Boyfriend is American, studies in Freiburg, wants to do an internship in Switzerland. To get a permit as an intern in this country, one needs to prove in writing that the internship is a compulsory part of the degree without which graduation is not possible. Where the university is located is irrelevant - every university, no matter where in the world it is, needs to provide that letter if one of their students is offered an internship in a Switzerland-based company. If they can't provide that letter, then there goes the internship.

...
Correct me if I got it wrong;

but among the conditions set for non-Swiss students from unis outside CH, the letter proving the stage to be compulsory is only one among other conditions, which would not be the case if the uni were Fribourg i.e. CH.
