| | Birth Certificate for a new born Indian Baby in Zurich
Hello All,
Lets say a new Born child in Zurich Hospital with Indian parents. Parents are Indian and staying in Zurich, Switzerland on L Permit and plan to make the delivery here. The child will be given a provisional birth certificate during birth. What do the parents need to do for a birth certificate of the baby. Point to mention here the mother and father do not have a Birth certificate back in India because they were born before 1989 and according to the Indian law if a Indian resident is born before 1989 , passport or 10th standard admit card will serve the verification of birth date. Even we do not have a Hospital discharge certificate. What steps shall i follow to obtain a birth certificate for the baby.
Appreciate English form contribution in advance

Our baby was born here, but we are on B permit and in Kanton Aargau. I can share our experience.
Both parents need a birth certificate from their place of birth, not older than 6 months. They do not care what Indian law states, this is the law here, and you need to abide by that. Make sure all your details on the certificate correspond correctly to the details in the passport.
We didn't get the birth certificate attested by the Embassy or MEA, but they encourage to do so, else they retain the original certificates with them, and you need to pay 32 Fr per certificate to get them back. The other documents you need are:
Marriage certificate- original
Please note the certificates need to be in English, not in the regional language.
Permit- both parents
Passport- both parents.
We submitted these documents at the hospital and received the birth certificate a week later without any hassle. It's just a matter of keeping everything ready before the baby comes.
Hope this helps.

Also, please note that the marraige certificate and birth certificates of the parents must be attested by the state and central governments in India (atleast this was mandatory in Zurich). you have to submit the attested documents in the zivilstadsamt in the place where your child is born and the swiss authorities in most cases do an independent verirfication of your documents by a third party agency. this means somebody from Swiss embassy may come to your home in India and verify the facts given by you in the application.so if this is your first child born in Zurich, then it is very time consuming. atleast we got our daughter's birth certificate when she was 8 months old. in our case, we submitted our documents late around 3 months after the birth(we are on B permit by the way).
cheers

I recently had a baby and can mention the steps we did and we got the birth certificate in 1 week after baby was born. But we started the registration process of us ( parents ) six months back.
The law recently changed regarding indian parents (ie you no more need to pay 900 chf ). So it is always better to go/call to Zivilstadsamt ( for children born in Zurich ) and check what you need. https://www.stadt-zuerich.ch/prd/de/...mt/geburt.html
Basically You need
1. Permit copies
2. Passport copies
3. Marriage certificate attested by Notary State and MEA.
4. Birth certificates of parents ( if both are born in India ). You can apply for birth certificate in India quite easily via agency or online . These certificates need to be attested by MEA and Switz embassy in India ( latter is not mandatory, but speeds up the process ).
You can apply for registration of birth of parents even before baby is born. I suggest to do it before baby is born as it might help you to relax once the new one is here.

Thanks for the useful information.
We are here in Zurich on L Permit and our baby is due in mid August . But we came to know just yesterday that parents' birth certificates (NOT OLDER THAN 6 MONTHS) are required to apply for BC of a newborn.
At this point of time we are having our original birth certificates.
If possible kindly let us know how long the entire process takes to get birth certificate reissued in India and then getting it legalized by MEA and Swiss Embassy.
Thanks in advance.

If you have the original birth certificate then half of your work is done.visit the office who issued your birth certificate. Show them the original and tell them to re-issue a birth certificate. Govt fees for re-issuing the BC is 100 INR, in your BC at the bottom there is a date of issue which should not be later than 6 months. The re-issue can be done within a single day.Once re-issued contact TTK Prestige services in india, they will charge round about 5000INR for legalisation by MEA within 1.5 months. Good thing you started early, should be finished by delivery and all the best and happy motherhood.

Thanks a lot
I feel relieved to know that it takes only one working day to get the birth certificate reissued in case the original is available.
However, let me please inform you that VFS Global seems to charge almost negligible amount for attestation.

There are 3 steps:
1. Get new birth certificate
2. legalize by state home department
3. Apostille by MEA
VFS is doing only step 3 which is most easiest thing to do. | Quote: | | | | | Thanks a lot

Spot on. Legalization will be done by MEA and they will put a stamp like the one behind your marriage certificate.
There are states in india which allow online application to reissue BC, for west Bengal which I know you have to be present in the office pay 100 INR over the table and 6000 under the table to get it in next 5 mins

Hello
We visited Zivilstandsamt and received the checklist of documents need to be submitted for newborn birth registration in Zurich.
They mentioned parent's marriage certificates and birth certificates should be legalized through:
1. Deputy Secretary Home, State Government Attestation
2. Ministry of External Affairs Attestation and Apostille
When we came to Zurich on L permit , our marriage certificate was already legalized as a mandate. However now we see that the home department attestation stamp was of <Section Officer , Grade A Service , Home Dept Govt of West Bengal>
Can it create a problem now here since the checklist says they want attestation from Deputy Secretary Home, State Government?
Kindly advise if possible

Hi
The marriage certificate already once Legalised will again be "Revalidation Apostille" in other terms means re-legalization and this will be done by MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
NEW DELHI, INDIA
In your case attestation from Deputy Secretary Home, State Government is not required as it has been already done once. But you need to get your document revalidated by MEA. I hope this helps. | Quote: | | | | | Hello

Kindly advise if possible | | | | | Please note that "Revalidation Apostille" is only valid for Marriage certificate since it is only issue once so the same piece of document needs to be re-validated every time it is required.
In case fo D.O.B certificate it needs to be attested by
1. COUNTER SIGNED DEPUTY SECRETARY HOME, Govt. of State
2. MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS NEW DELHI, INDIA
every time DOB certificate is needed. As validity of D.O.B certificate is only 6 months. After that whole process of issuing D.O.B certificate and legalizing it has to be performed. | Quote: | | | | | Hi

Hahahha true. Indian govt should listen to this problem and bring some diplomatic solution. | Quote: | | | | | giving birth seems to be easier than obtaining the BC. | | | | | |

| | India: Use of Birth Certificate in Zurich
Hello All,
Anyone from Chennai or whoever from Indian happens to know the answer – your advice will be really helpful!!
Basically while applying for the birth certificate of a newborn in Zurich, parents are required to submit their legalized fresh birth certificates in original.
My husband - who is from Chennai - can easily download his birth certificate from Chennai Corporation Website. And the certificate clearly specifies: This certificate is computer generated and DOES NOT REQUIRE ANY SEAL/SIGNATURE IN ORIGINAL. The authenticity of this certificate can be verified at www.chennaicorporation.gov.in. Now our doubt is: Did anyone from Chennai ever encounter any issue while using such computer generated certificate (where the Seal or Signature will not be original) in Zurich?
Thanks In Advance,
Amrita

You will still need to legalize this online certificate from tamilnadu secretariat and apostille from MEA.

Yes you are correct , we understand that it will always need home state department attestation and MEA apostile.
But my concern is even after legalizing the certificate , Zurich authorities should not raise any issue with Computer Printed Seal & Signature on the certificate
May be I am getting too much apprehensive |
