UK couple seeking residency in Switzerland

Hi there guys,

my wife and I run a successful LTD in the UK (we're both UK citizens).

After several successful mini-stays we are ready to make the move permanently.

As self-employed Directors though, what type of visa would we need?

Thank you

Your entitled to a B permit assuming you can convince the authorities your business can support you.

We answered a similar posting some 6/7 years ago and suggested to the OP that they look at our area, i.e. the southern side of Lac Leman. Here, as we have, you would benefit from not having to obtain either a residence permit or a work permit, but could take up residence and buy a property as an EU citizen.
After contemplating our suggestion, the above is now happily ensconced in Amphion-les-Bains with his family [he was also the director of a company]. But whatever you decide, good luck and if we can be of further help, please send us a PM.

Re: UK couple seeking residency in Switzerland

I would say a surprising amount of detail depends on where you want to live, if you want to buy or rent a property, do you want to stay in the place you used on visits (so the landlord knows you and would be happy to take you without seeing a residence permit), are you retiring, etc.

I would say talk to the Migrationsamt of the commune you are looking to settle in. Don't get hung up on needing to have provable income of xyz just yet.

It should be straightforward, as you are seeking residency, you didn't mention you would work from Switzerland, so not a work permit. Either way, I would still talk to them directly, then come back here and report back. The more experienced among us should then be able to comment on optimisations that may be possible.

Nice suggestion, nice place. But it's most probably about taxes.
