Schengen Changes visiting the UK w/Chinese National

Wife Chinese.
Visiting the UK.
Get the impression that she can use her C permit and does not now need a Visa to visit family in the UK.

Anybody travelled to the UK in the past six months with a Chinese national any first hand experience in this forum can advise?

Probably you have the wrong impression. Britain does not recognise the Schengen agreement on crossing EU borders!

The British passport office, independently run, are well up their own arses....

Yes,

But these articles in the Telegraph tell a different story?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/finance/c...tor-visas.html

It is one of several on the subject?

Re: Schengen Changes visiting the UK w/Chinese National

The article seems to imply the system may change "in the near future" to allow the application for a UK visa to be submitted at the same time & place as the Schengen visa application. At present a Chinese visitor needs a UK visa and I don't see any suggestion of that changing anytime soon.

Yes, that's clearly for Chinese visitors coming into Schengen and the UK on the same trip. Wouldn't apply in the OP's case as they're already in Schengen so would still need to apply for a UK visa.

Re: Schengen Changes visiting the UK w/Chinese National

Hmm,

We use the C permit as a Schengen effectively right now; and happily cross the boarder to France, Germany & Italy without a separate visa, even when thru Amsterdam in transit this summer with it.

The article was dated October 2014, which is 10 months ago; it suggested they were on the brink...

But hey, need/want to hear from any other Chinese nationals living in Switzerland, who have travelled to the UK recently. I know I am clutching at straws, but having to pay for my wife of almost 2 decades to simply visit family is really an insult we're both getting rather tired of.

All well but France, Germany and Italy (and the Netherlands) are in the Schengen area, the UK is not.

How long has your wife been in Switzerland for? Could she not apply for naturalisation? She might be able to apply for a long term multi-entry visa to the UK.

C-permit gives you access to Schengen countries... but the UK isn't Schengen. The way things are going with the EU and in Calais, the UK are going to get stricter on immigration, not less so.

Like it or not, there's no change on the horizon as far as visiting the UK is concerned. Your wife needs a visa; it's quite clear from the UK government website.
