Doc from Uk to say never been to prison

Hi there guys,
I am now switching from my G permit to my B and it seems as of a few months ago people applying for permits in Switzwrland need to have a 'i have never been to prison' document.
When I speak to one person at the immigration office in Ticino they say i can get it from the Uk and then others say not just sign the waver.
Anyway today they seemed adamant i can so question is......

How can I get a simple cheap and fast document from the UK to satisfy this final part of my permit process.

Many thanks to y'all.

Eugene

Watch out for the many scam sites offering the service.

Re: Doc from Uk to say never been to prison

Many thanks for the quick reply chaps, this one seems pretty hardcore but whatever pleases them of course.
I am already living abroad so i will find it hard to provide home address bills info.
I also found this, are they they alike? (apart from one more expensive than other).

https://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx

Ok so what is the difference between this one and the one you suggest

There is also Disclosure Scotland.

>Note – if you live in England & Wales, you can apply to Disclosure Scotland and they will issue a basic disclosure under the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act as it applies in England & Wales.

Re: Doc from Uk to say never been to prison

It's possible to get a Swiss Criminal record print out even as a non resident with a foreign address. I had to do this recently, it cost 20 CHF & I am sure that it will be acceptable in CH

We just toddled along to the UK embassy in Bern and they wrote and signed the letter for us.

Re: Doc from Uk to say never been to prison

Ah yes they wanted to know if i had any criminal record in CH but also they want to know about my history in the UK and the manager of the office here in Agno Ticino is determined that UK citizens can and should get these.
Its not as if they really care as it will be in English anyway.

What they actually should do is request a specific document otherwise there is little point.

If was close to the embassy I would absolutely get my ass down there and smile lots and get some kind of piece of paper!!
Alas am way down South.

Option 1
go for the https://www.acro.police.uk/police_certificates.aspx
check at cost of 40 odd quid takes 10 days to deliver and you can put a overseas address.

Option 2
CRB (now DRB) check doc at lower cost of £26, says it takes upto 8 weeks!!! and this is for really people wanting to work with children.

Option 3
I also found that you can apply for £10 for an FOI request under freedom of information act to your local UK police office. e mail them direct and in theory they should issue a valid document.

https://www.gov.uk/copy-of-police-records

I will try option 3 and update you guys, thank you for all the help!!

Re: Doc from Uk to say never been to prison

Got both a CH and UK one quite easily, CH one came in a week and cost 20 CHF.

UK one from Disclosure Scotland took 10 days as it took a while for them to send me the form by post. Unfortunately they refuse to provide the form by pdf, god knows why...but they mail it to you. Can't remember price but it's on the site, nothing too great.

I've never heard of anyone needing a criminal record check to get a B permit before

For my B permit 3 years ago I think there was just a question on the form - "Do you have a criminal record?"

I remember thinking wow what a trusting place it is here, not even checking.. It was the same for our complimentary health insurance, we didn't need any medical checks and no restrictions as long as we told them we held private health insurance in the UK (which we did) but again no actual check.

Re: Doc from Uk to say never been to prison

Ok so slight update to my search.
there is a cheaper option although it is listed at taking upto 4 weeks.

https://www.acro.police.uk/subject_access.aspx

Basically subject access which is under the Freedom of Information act to obtain your police records.

It's maybe similar to the "are you a terrorist" type questions on landing cards - if you lie, it's easy for them to revoke your permit and expel you on the grounds of lying, vs arguing the case in court that your record makes you dangerous.

It cannot be. If you are applying under the agreement on free movement, they are simply bound by this (Annex I, Article 6):

When issuing residence permits, the Contracting Parties may not require an employed person to produce more than the following documents:
(a) the document by virtue of which he entered their territory;
(b) a contractual statement from the employer or a written confirmation of engagement.

http://www.admin.ch/opc/it/classifie...index.html#ta6

A criminal background check can be performed in exceptional cases if the authorities have a specific reason to consider you suspicious. They cannot systematically require the document from all foreigners. The federal migration office explains it here (Section 2.4.2, page 26).

If the folks in Agno keep harassing you, talk to the cantonal office in Bellinzona. They are in charge.

This is news to me, indeed unfortunate. My advice has been of no use :-)
Good luck getting your document then.

Apparently the Ticinese have been told by the federal migration office in Bern and the Italians that they are in breach of the free movement agreement. Nothing has changed so far. Let us wait if somebody takes them to court.
