U.S. celebrates its diaspora

There may be no government in the world that steps on its diaspora more than the US. In a bit of cheek the U.S. State Department is celebrating "Global Diaspora Week" and has set up a Facebook page:


The comments add some spice to this celebration, like this one:

Laura Wilson: Most nations treat their diaspora as a national treasure, the US treats theirs like rubbish. They are thought of as nothing more than eternal tax slaves costing the US nothing in return. The US goes so far as to render the tax deferred accounts of US disabled children abroad useless, taxing them annually. They even tax the monies contributed by their home nation. This is nothing other than theft and disgusting, hurting the most vulnerable amongst us.
