Re: Going from Permit B to Carte de legitimation
This is probably too late for you but might be useful for others in that same situation with a temporary contract: in my canton (I donīt live in Geneva) I was allowed to make contributions directly throughout my temporary 1 year contract. So I had to give up my Permis B and take on the carte de legitimation, but at the start of my contract I had to send copies of the contract etc to the canton authorities (caisse de compensation) who agreed that because I had already been contributing and my contract was only temporary, I could pay voluntary contributions for the duration of my contract. So I was sent a bill every three months or so directly from the caisse, for all contributions including unemployment, etc. Note though that you also pay the employer contribution so it adds up... But it allows you to keep your regularity with all your contributions and in principle also be entitled to chomage if you meet the minimum contribution period. I am not sure it is allowed with a permanent contract at an IO and it might not make financial sense anyway. I get the impression each canton can do what it wants in this case, so I am not sure if it applies everywhere, but worth asking at the start of your contract.
