Dependent Visa

Hi

I am moving to Swiss from my company on long term in few months. Is that possible for my wife to work/look for a job if she come on my dependent visa. If yes, is there any specific type of visa/dependent visa to be applied

This is from the Canton Zurich Migration Office:

"Do family members of third country nationals also require a work permit?

Family members from third countries with a permanent residence permit or a residence permit (C or B permit) do not require a work permit.
On the other hand family members with a short-term residence permit (L permit) do require a work permit to take up gainful employment."

Re: Dependent Visa

You do not get a choice of permit. She gets the same permit type as yours. You will likely start with an L permit which means she will need professional qualifications, i.e. a university degree, and also any employer will have to request permission to hire her and meet certain employment criteria to get approval from the Swiss authorities. If she's coming with you when you move your employer needs to ask for a dependent's permit for her. Otherwise she'll have to wait until you get established here, then you can apply for her to join you.

You do not have an automatic right to family reunification so it's down to the cantonal authorities to decide whether to allow her to join you or not.

You both need to apply for Type D visas at the nearest Swiss embassy/consulate so you can enter Switzerland long term legally. These will only be issued if the permits have been approved.
