WOW!!
Firstly hats off to OP - for her sheer emotional strength in accepting her actions.
Secondly - the replies were a real opener to 'how it works'.
EF at it's best.

May I ask why you did what you did in the first place?

| | Re: Fine at the COOP shoplifting incident | Quote: | | | | | That's one way of looking at it. Fact is, stealing from a Coop grocery store is what it is. It's probably not going to lead to a life of crime any more than people who ride public transport without a valid ticket. You sometimes just take your chances, most of the time you'd get away with it, but not always.
On a scale of evil, I'll take the shoplifter before anyone who resorts to violence or cruelty. | | | | | You are no Javert, sir.

No idea about the academic area nowadays, but if I apply for a job in Switzerland I need to provide my "Strafregister", which shows if I've been convicted of any criminal offences. https://www.e-service.admin.ch/crex/...rafregister_en
As far as I know, many offences are automatically deleted after 5 years?

And even if the user name is obviously (and actually) female, many people assume otherwise. I can't tell you how many times I've been called "guy" or man" on the couple of gaming forums I belong to. |

I think he means the person who asked why she did it, Aleydis.... that's how I read it anyway. | Quote: | | | | | Why the gender confusion? Catherine says she is - | | | | | |

When I was new in this country and not clear on zones I got caught with a ticket that was one stop out of the zone I had bought the ticket for. It was a genuine mistake. Anyway the ticket guy issued a fine that I paid. This happened many years ago.
Will it be on my Strafregister too?
OP what were you stealing? Anythign nice? |

Cathrin, if you would like to have the letter explained to you by a lawyer for a small fee, you can go to the Ordre Des Avocats Vaudois during their consulting hours. You pay a fee of 40chf and wait to see one of the lawyers on duty at the time.
They are located in the building opposite the Palace Hotel in Lausanne.

Of course, being caught shop-lifting is usually only the first time a person has attempted it
Don`t understand all the sympathy and bravos for admitting to it. Isn`t that one of the first things toddlers are taught? (NOT to do)

| | | | | The only time a good friend of mine travelled on a bus without her wallet (& transport card) was the only time the ticket inspectors paid a surprise visit.

i once asked my colleagues if they'd ever shoplifted and they all said yes, all male. Im going to appear too pollyannish or holier than thou when i say i was shocked.
As i get older and see all the disparity in wealth, i think you can only expect it more.

Was this an imaginary conversation in your head while rocking back and forth? Again.
