Not sayin it happened like that to the op.... | | | | | It is almost guaranteed that every single one of us on the forum, including the whiter than whites, have done something in their life either to break the law or if not then they are ashamed of that while may not technically be illegal, is as bad or worse in terms of morality than shoplifting.

Doesn't always work that way.

It crossed my mind that women earning on average 20% less than men (depending on skin colour, i'm assuming cathrine is white) if she should ask for a 20% discount on her fine.
seems only fair doesnt it?

| | Re: Fine at the COOP shoplifting incident | Quote: | | | | | Thanks so much for your kind words. .. I have been really anxious ever since I received he letter. I am extremely ashamed and repentant on what I have done .but at the same time I don't wish that thus incident in anyour way affects my future. .. this is my first and last try at something so shameful as this.... | | | | | Maybe I'm a sucker, but I was rather moved by your story, and by your predicament. Many of us -- partlcularly those of "a certain age" like me -- can look back on our lives and see that we learnt many valuable lessons through making mistakes. A willingness to come clean and to use the experience to do things better in future -- these are the important things for me.
Regarding what to do: I've no experience with this sort of fine so I can't add to what's been said, other than to agree that the Swiss tend to be efficient when it comes to finding ways for you to pay something.
Sounds to me that you're looking for reassurance and an arm around the shoulder, so to speak. In my university days, the student union or student association always had a Welfare Department who would deal with all sorts of issues from housing and legal stuff to relationships and other personal things. Does your college have such an association with a student welfare office? I would go and talk to someone there. They are not there to judge you or to punish you further, or to spread gossip. If you ask for a confidential chat with one of the student officers, explain that you are genuinely remorseful and need some reassurance about your future I'm certain they can help you.
Good luck for the future, and think of it as a very valuable lesson learned!

my 6 year old daughter recently stole a Rubix Cube from a shop....as soon as I found out, she was marched back to the shop and I made her speak to the manager. I doubt she will do it again.....but if she does, she can live with the consequences

Shoplifters should be deported!
My late wife was deported from the US back to Canada after her Swiss boyfriend put something in her bag without her knowledge, and she got caught. She also got a ten year ban from entering the US!

The manager gave me a thorough lecture, and told me he was surprised someone in their 30's still liked Bubbalicious.

Tom | | | | | Despite what you may read the Democratic Republic of Kenistan has fairly lenient sentencing. For example when it comes to the first offence of shoplifting you are let off with just 1 hand being severed.
A second offence is treated far more seriously - you're shot. You may feel this is draconian* but it is in fact quite logical - a person with 1 hand can still work, a person with no hands becomes a burden to their family and society. Therefore it is cheaper to shoot them.
*In Kenian (the first official language** of the DRK) the word for draconian also means fair and just.
** The second official language is English - obviously.
