how to maintain a B-permit after leaving

Hi,

I'm a non-EU resident and my B-permit expires soon.
I plan to leave Switzerland for a few months but I would like to keep (extend) my B-permit so I could easily travel here back again. Otherwise I have to go through the usual visa application in future.
Do you think there would be any solution?

Don't leave for a few months would be the easiest solution.

If you no longer have the job then you won't be able to renew it.

Re: how to maintain a B-permit after leaving

Sorry, but it doesn't work that way. Unless you have a job here or are independently wealthy enough not to need to work you can't extend/renew a permit. Basically no job, no permit. Even if your permit was valid for a few months, the fact you're no longer employed by a Swiss employer makes the permit invalid.

If you want to come back you'll either need to find a new employer or get a tourist visa.

No, because the process is designed to stop exactly this happening. If your permit expires and you have no job then there is no reason for them to extend it.

Re: how to maintain a B-permit after leaving

I was in a similar situation recently. But when I went to Gemeinde, they clearly told me that I can't extend it beyond my date of leaving ( end of work contract ). They just gave me an extension of one day just in case my flights are delayed or some other issue comes up.

If you do not have a job or you are not at RAV, you will not get a B-permit extension. If you are at RAV, they prolong it, but then you are also not allowed to leave the country for longer periods.

I managed to get a C permit with Zug canton, even though I was unemployed. Apparently, they'll do it if you are unemployed for less than a year (and have the language certificates, presumably). Not sure how it works, to be honest. I just took the C permit and ran!
